Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane is discussing personal terms with Tottenham Hotspurs after Leeds United agreed to sell him for about €12,000,000. Keane still has to pass a medical at Spurs, but that should be no problem for him.

Robbie had expressed his anger at being used a substitute at Leeds United, who despite selling Rio Ferdinand, appeared to have too many strikers on the books. As manger Terry Venables pointed out, they have three other stirkers fit to play, and Robbie Fowler expected to return from injury soon.

Robbie is not the only Ireland player to have been linked to a move just before the August 31st transfer window deadline. Ipswich player Matt Holland last week rejected a move to Aston Villa.

The vast majority of Irish players will be tied to their clubs until December after August 31st passes, as the new FIFA transfer system comes into force. A few, such as Holland, who plays for a Nationwide League team, and Barrett, who is on loan to another Nationwide League team could move, but they are in the minority.
