Irish coach Mick McCarthy today took a 'golden handshake' offer from the FAI, somewhere in the region of 125,000 Euros, to resign from his job as coach of the team.

This leaves the door open for a new manager, quite likely to be former Leeds boss and famous crucial penalty scorer, Dave O'Leary.

It also possibly leaves the way clear for Roy Keane to re-enter the squad, but that really depends on public opinion, and the state of his knee after his recent operation
