Barnsley 2 – 0 Nottingham Forest

November 21 2020
A fantastic Callum Styles strike and a Cauley Woodrow goal sealed all three points for the super reds and made it four wins from five games for the new gaffer.
The game overall was good to watch for the neutral with both teams having their chances in what was end to end stuff at times.
Walton was superb again and made a few terrific saves to keep us in the game while Barnsley hit the bar three times before managing to find the back of the net.
Alex Mowatt won the goal of the month award for October and look no further than Callum Styles for November’s award after his strike in this one.
It has to be said that the manager used his subs well in this one and made the right ones at the right times to win the game.
It was a surprise to see Mowatt withdrawn. He had played well and doesn’t often come off. But it was also the right decision to move Styles in to midfield. In fact it was what I was calling for when James was being taken off. I wanted Odour on at left wing back then and Styles in the middle but obviously the manager knew the right time to make the necessary changes.
James looks to me as though he would be better used as Kane currently is and then we could start Styles in with Mowatt.
I also think it might be time to give Adeboyejo a start instead of Frieser. He has looked dangerous coming on these last two games and I haven’t seen much from Frieser in any game he has played other than a few missed headed sitters.
That’s just my opinion on a couple of changes that could make us even better at this moment in time. But I will happily go along with whatever the manager picks as it is certainly working.
Brittain looks to have been a great signing so far and it makes me feel a bit sorry for Jordan Williams. He was terrific before his injury but I can’t see a way back in to the team for him now.
Woodrow, whether he scores or not looks a lot better playing up front. Hopefully his first goal from open play this season will give him the confidence he seems to have been missing in front of goal.
Kane looked better when he came on too but I still see him way down the pecking order in terms of earning a starting spot. It would have certainly been nice if he had put that free kick in with his first touch.
I always feel that there is more to write in defeat as you pick apart what went wrong and who played poorly so I’m going to end this now after a good performance where almost everyone has played well.
We created chances other than the goals as the woodwork can testify. We worked hard a defended well for the most part and when they were able to breach our defence our goalkeeper came to the rescue. All in all you can’t ask for any more from this team. Play offs here we come.
