Seven days is a long time in football !!!
Bristol City
7 days ago, Bristol City were looking forward to interesting matches against high-flying
Watford (A) & Reading (H). After all, they'd won 3 of their last 4 home league matches,
were on 39 points & looking up the table, dreaming of a playoff place.
Since then, they've been hammered 0-6 by Watford & lost 0-2 to Reading. they've also just
sacked their manager! Now, the stats show that they’ve lost their last 5 league matches,
scoring only 2 goals (in the 2-3 defeat at Brentford on 3/2/21).
Barnsley
7 days ago, we'd just lost narrowly to Chelsea in the FA Cup despite an excellent
performance . We hadn't won a league game since beating Rotherham on 29/12/20. Next
up were Brentford who hadn't lost in 21 matches! Oh heck!
Since then, we've beaten Brentford 2-0 on their own turf & followed this up with a battling
2-1 victory v Blackburn Rovers at Oakwell. We are now on 42 points (3 more than Bristol
City).
We're up to 10th place in the table, 7 points outside the playoff places with a game in
hand. Bristol have slipped to 14th.
It seems, currently, that one club is in crisis, the other on the crest of a wave. With home
games coming up in the next 7 days v Stoke City & Millwall, please let the next 7 days be
like the last 7 days!
