Barnsley have activated a clause that means that Cooper will return to Championship side QPR.
The on-loan shot-stopper has been an ever-present in goal for Barnsley this season, making 28 appearances in all competitions.
However, Conor Hourihane is looking to reshuffle his defence, which has kept just two clean sheets in League One this season.
Cooper for the most part was a solid goalkeeper for Barnsley during his loan, making spectacular saves and showing why he kept 20 plus clean sheets at Stevenage last season.
There was the occasional mistake whilst being a sweeper keeper, however you could argue Cooper wasn’t necessarily the reason why Barnsley have been so shaky defensively.
However, Hourihane must feel that the goalkeeper can be upgraded.
The 24-year-old has been replaced by Owen Goodman who has joined on-loan from Crystal Palace.
