Barnsley host Peterborough

The Reds beat Blackpool and Stevenage before drawing with Northampton and Wimbledon. 

Barnsley currently sit 16th in League One on 38 points. 

The entertaining 3-3 draw on Saturday against Wimbledon showed the two different sides to Barnsley very clearly. 

On the one hand, there was the great attacking play that overwhelmed Wimbledon at times. 

On the other, a shaky defence that any opposition side feel they can get at when they visit Oakwell. 

It feels like the Reds are almost there, however continue to be pulled down by sloppy defending that confines them to midtable mediocrity. 

On Peterborough, Barnsley head coach Conor Hourihane said: “Since Luke’s gone in, I think he’s done fantastically well. 

“He’s a really good coach. 

“They’re good with the ball. They play an attacking style, as I like to play. 

“He’s picked up a lot of points. 

“So, we need to be ready for the game and analyse them properly and pick a team to try and go out and get a good result. 

“We still want our attacking output and go and attack games and go and excite people and enjoy the attacking side of the game. 

“And then, we can’t be conceding three goals all the time. 

“We conceded three goals now in the last two games and that can’t continue, obviously.” 

In terms of injury news, Josh Earl is still out with a long-term injury and Tawanda Chirewa is expected to miss the game too. 

In terms of Peterborough, they sit 10th on 44 points and are five points off the play-offs. 

They had a slow start to the season which saw them part ways with manager Darren Ferguson on 25 October 2025 following a 2-1 home defeat to Blackpool which left the Posh bottom of the league. 

They then appointed Luke Williams on 29 October 2025 who has won 13 out of 23 matches in all competitions. 

Peterborough lost 2-0 at Bradford on Saturday but had two impressive wins before that which were a 6-1 win at home to Wigan and a 2-1 win away at Mansfield. 

Barnsley have already beaten the Posh twice this campaign, with two 1-0 away wins. 

The first was a victory in mid-August in the league thanks to a Caylan Vickers goal, and the second was an FA Cup round two victory in early December with Patrick Kelly scoring. 

Interestingly, Barnsley have kept more clean sheets at the Weston Homes Stadium (2) than at Oakwell this season (1). 

The Reds are unbeaten in their last five games against the Posh, however Peterborough are unbeaten in their last four visits to Oakwell. 

They also currently have the fifth best away record in the division so will feel confident when travelling to South Yorkshire. 

The two clubs have met 48 times, with both winning 20.
