Barnsley visit Leyton Orient

Barnsley will look for their fourth league away win of the season when they travel to face Leyton Orient on Saturday at 12.30pm.

 

The Reds are coming into the game off the back of a defeat at Huddersfield in which they led through David McGoldrick before the Terriers turned the game around.


Barnsley currently sit 15th in League One, seven points clear of the relegation zone and 11 points off sixth place.


After the trip to Leyton Orient, Barnsley have three home games in a row which can be seen as a positive due to the recent run the Reds have put together at Oakwell.


In terms of injury news, Josh Earl is out with a broken foot and Tawanda Chirewa returned to parent club Wolves to do some rehab after having a setback with his injury.


However, the rest of the squad is available and Hourihane praised his backroom staff for keeping everyone fit.


The Barnsley head coach said: “It’s testament to everyone. It’s not the biggest of squads but, from a head coach’s point of view, availability of players has been pretty consistently good and fingers crossed that stays the same. It’s not by fluke, it’s through clear communication and alignment. It’s a team effort. Credit to the medical staff, physios, sports scientists, they have been first class.”


As for opponents Leyton Orient, they currently sit 20th and just two points above the relegation zone.


The O’s have won just two of their last seven games however they won away at Northampton last weekend.


Talisman Dom Ballard scored to increase his tally to 16 league goals.


Leyton Orient finished sixth last season and reached the League One play-off final where they were defeated by Charlton.


They are managed by Richie Wellens who has been in charge since March 2022.


Last season, Barnsley’s trip to Leyton Orient on Good Friday was Conor Hourihane’s first game as permanent head coach, with the Reds losing 4-3.


Barnsley beat Orient 3-2 at Oakwell earlier in the season and the two sides have faced off 60 times, with the Reds winning 25 and losing 24.
