New Keeper Joins The Gas

Brentford keeper Ellery Balcombe has joined Bristol Rovers on loan from the Premier League side for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at League Two side Crawley Town but was recalled by Brentford so the shot-stopper could join Rovers and add competition for the number one spot which is currently taken by James Belshaw. Joe Barton was keen to bring in another keeper to push Belshaw as youngster Jed Ward is currently out on loan and Finnish keeper Annsi Jaakola has been coaching the keepers and has found the balance of coaching and playing difficult.

The former England youth international has six England Under-20 international appearances to his name and becomes Joe Bartons first signing of the January Transfer window, with the manager hoping to bring in as many as six signings in this window. Balcombe has also represented England at Under 18 and 19 level. The keeper has also spent time on loan at Doncaster Rovers and Boreham Wood.
