Rovers sign experienced centre back

Joey Barton has signed Plymouth Argyle man James Wilson on a free transfer.

All last season many Rovers fans were crying out for Rovers to sign some experience at the back as Rovers looked naive during many games with such a young back line. Now Rovers have got some much-needed experience in promotion-winning Plymouth defender James Wilson. The 34-year-old made 41 appearances as Plymouth were crowned Champions of League One.

The 6' 3" centre-back has over 350 appearances to his name and has spells at Brentford, Oldham, Sheffield United, Lincoln and Ipswich Town. Wilson has also been capped once by Wales back in 2013 making his debut in a 1-1 draw against Belgium. Wilson is the first signing for Rovers and Manager Joey Barton told the Official website he was happy to get his man.

"We are delighted to secure James' services. He comes into our group having just done what we are aiming for; getting promoted out of League One.

"He was a standout performer for last season and he will be looking to enjoy similar success here. His experience and character will be huge for us this coming season."
