Defender set to depart

Defender James Connolly looks set to join League Two side Tranmere Rovers on a season-long loan after being made available by Manager Matt Taylor.

The 22-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan with Morecambe in League Two but returned in January and featured ten times for The Gas. Rovers looked shaky at the back last season, and Manager Matt Taylor has already reinforced the team's defensive side. Taylor has already brought in centre backs Taylor-Moore and Dan Ellison and full backs Clinton Mola, Bryant Bilongo and scholar Charlie White.

Connolly signed for Rovers from Cardiff City after impessing in an initial loan spell and helped Rovers gain promotion back to League One under the guidance of Joey Barton, but found game time more difficult on Rovers return to League One. He has made 63 appearances for Rovers with a further 14 appearances from the bench, Connolly also scored three times for Rovers.
