Probable new Motherwell boss Stewart McCall watched Motherwell lose narrowly by one goal to nil at Celtic Park in what was a poor game.

McCall looks certain to put pen to paper on a two and a half year contract tomorrow, and take over from Craig Brown.

He watched his potential new side be run over in the first half as Celtic powered forward at every opportunity as Motherwell struggled to retain any decent possession.

Things looked bleak as early as the 2nd minute, Joe Ledley had a shot saved by Darren Randolph and the rebound fell kindly for Emilio Izaguirre but he could only blast over from close range.

Celtic created two further chances with Olivier Kapo having a goal disallowed for offside and Paddy McCourt heading over at the far post.

The opening goal eventually arrived on 27 minutes, a corner on the left was played to McCourt at the edge of the box. The Irishman created some space to bend a shot across Randolph and high into his top left hand corner.

It was almost two before the break when we once again gave the ball away in midfield allowing Ledley a free run on goal but he could only slide a shot wide.

The second half was a poor affair with neither side retaining possession particularly well and as a result few chances were created.

It took some strange decisions from the ref to liven things up and give us a lively last 20 minutes or so. The ref booked Lasley for a tackle of Izagerra that looked soft, he then awarded a hand ball against the midfielder without showing a second yellow.

The Celtic fans were even more upset in the 90th minute when skipper Scott Brown was shown a red card. He had been booked for a foul on Humphrey in the 57th minute and was deservedly shown a second for a late challenge on Hammell.

This led a late charge from Well but all they could muster was a bit of a stramash in the six yard box from a Craigan long throw but Celtic managed to scramble the ball clear and hold on to the three points.

McCall then paid a visit to the visiting dressing room to introduce himself to the players and offer words of encouragement following their second half performance.
