Former Motherwell midfielder Kenny Black has been confirmed as Stuart McCall’s assistant Manager.
Black left Airdrie in the summer after being manager for four years at the Excelsior Stadium. He helped Airdrie to two promotions and a Challenge Cup win over Ross County in 2008.
Any time I was over at Airdrie I was always impressed with the work Black did on limited resources but the Airdrie fans didn’t agree with that feeling. They always though his sides under performed when it came to play off finals.
Black returns to Fir Park after 28 years, he signed in 83/84 in a deal that brought him and Kenny Lyall from Rangers and sent Nicky Walker in the opposite direction.
He stayed for half a season playing 18 games in the process before moving on to join Leicester in the summer of 1984. He then had spells with Hearts, Porsmouth and Airdrie.
More recently he has been helping out old Heart team mate, Craig Levein, with some part time coaching and scouting with the Scotland National Team.
As a player he was a combative midfielder and we can only hope he can pass this passion on to the Well players and give them a lift ahead of the Hibs game on Saturday.
