Motherwell embarrassed by Rangers

Three goals in either half saw Motherwell torn apart by a rampant Rangers side at Ibrox this afternoon. 

We made the worst possible start losing a goal after only five minutes, one again Vladimir Weiss was to be a tormentor against us. He turned Hutchinson inside out before picking out Naismith at the front post for a simple chance to score.

Then we survived a couple of scares with Lelavic coming close, and then Weiss falling over looking for a penalty, which actually looked a decent shout.

Then just about the half hour mark we started to get some decent possession and came close through Jones, who hit the side net, and Sutton who deflected a header just over.

As often happens we were then hit with a double sucker punch, Whittaker raced through before passing to Jelavic to beat Randolph from close range. Minutes later it was three nil, this time Jelavic converted a clever free kick from Weiss at the front post.

The start of the second half had little to write home about apart from a Fleck header over the bar. The only talking point in the opening 20 minutes was a strange booking for Bougherra who took a quick free kick and was shown a yellow for it!

Despite McGregor being called upon to turn over a shot from Forbes, it was still one way traffic and it was no surprise when Rangers extended their lead on 76 minutes. Davis burst through from midfield before send the ball wide to Fleck and his cross was turned into his own net by Hutchinson.

It was five minutes later when a long ball by Weir picked out Healey and his low ball allowed Jelavic an easy finish for his hat trick. Rangers made it six with seven minutes left when a Bougherra cross fell for Healey to score from a tight angle.

We did try to keep going but Forbes free kick in the dying minutes was once again save McGregor to deny the small band of Well fans a consolation goal.

This was a tough shift for the makeshift defence and hopefully they can rebound quickly for the game at Pittodrie on Tuesday.
