What chance of new signings this week.

McCall

Boss Stuart McCall returns from holiday tomorrow, will this mean at least a couple of new faces being paraded at Fir Park this week.

The manager has been on a well deserved family break, and before he left he secured the signing of striker Michael Higdon and made sure Stephen Craigan was signed for another year.

He has claimed in his recent email to Well supporters that the preparations for the new season have continued throughout his holiday, and he said in the same mail shot, “We hope to announce a few more faces that will give us more competition for places in the key areas and hopefully give you further optimism ahead of the impending season.”

One of the issues he has to settle quickly is the future of midfielder Steven Jennings who has yet to agree to the new deal offered to him. This will help determine whether we need to add a midfield player or not, or whether another wage is freed up or not.

Names that have been linked with us in the last few days include; Jon Taylor of Shrewsbury, an 18 year old winger who is out of contract and could move to Scotland for free.

We have also been linked with former Man City Midfielder Kyle Moore who is currently with Galway in the League of Ireland but can move for free as well. There are also stories which suggest we are interested in Nicky Law formerly of Bradford City, a player who worked under McCall while he was there.

There are also persistent rumours of a return for Chris Porter who was released by Derby County after an injury plagued spell with the Rams. I am not sure this would be a good move given his injury record since leaving Fir Park.

Let’s hope we see the obligatory photo of new signing hold up a Motherwell scarf on a few occasions this week, or maybe even one next to a lawn mower being kept fresh for the new groundsman.

What chance of new signings this week.
