Strauss to Resign as Captain

England captain Andrew Strauss looks set to step down as England captain, with the ECB set to hold a press conference on Wednesday lunchtime to confirm the news......

It follows a short family holiday for the England test captain, where he has taken stock of England's 2-0 series loss to South Africa.

Although the exact contents of the ECB announcement, are not yet known, rumours and talk from those close to the England camp, is that Strauss has decided to call time on his illustrious spell as head of the England cricket team.

It follows a remarkable and challenging time for Strauss, given the chaotic time at the end of the South Africa series, when he had to tackle head on, alleged texts sent by Kevin Pietersen to the South African's, where the batsman called into quesiton some of Strauss's captaincy, although the exact content of those text messages, have yet to be made public, or even for that matter, known to Strauss himself, or coach Andy Flower.

If this really is the end for Strauss, not only as Captain, but also as a test player, it will be a real shame for it to end this way.

It was hoped that he would see out the back to back Ashes series in 2013, but now it would appear, that he has decided to call time now, and let Alastair Cook take the reigns for the winter tour to India, and then onto New Zealand.

Stauss did pull out of a planned appearance for Middlesex this week, and the planned annoucement is expected to confirm that he will step down as England captain.

Sad day, thought he would stay on until the back to back Ashes next year.

Been one of our best captains in a generation, superb leader, thanks Straussy and good luck for the future if this is all true.
