Cook 'Devasted' by Final Defeat

England captain Alastair Cook was a beaten man following the thrilling final defeat to India in the Champions Trophy. It was England's 5th defeat in a major one day final, and was on a par of disapointment with the 2004 defeat to the West Indies in the same competition....

England lost by 5 runs in a rain reduced match, that saw them needing 20 runs from 16 balls with both Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara well set at the crease.

However, two wickets in two balls from Ishant Sharma swung the game towards India.

"We're devastated, but we'll move on and try to get better."Cook told the media afterwards.

"It shows how quickly games can change in 20-overs cricket, new guys coming in will always find it difficult to hit those runs."

"I think this is my lowest moment as England captain. It's a tough place, but when the emotion has gone we'll analyse this and look to build towards the 2015 World Cup."Cook concluded.

England had been the subject of much talk during the tournament, from having slow players in the top order, to alleged ball tampering, but Cook was proud of how his players overcame all the negativity to come so close again in a major final.

The search for a major 50 over final victory now moves to Australia and New Zealand in 2015.
