Toon Linked WIth Nedum Onuoha - Player Profile

Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton is rumoured to be very keen on signing Manchester City defender Nedum Onuohu. The 23 year old has been tracked by Hughton as well as Sunderland and Aston Villa after giving a critical interview about manager Roberto Mancini and being cast aside as Joleon Lescott and Kolo Toure were brought into the side.

Nigerian born Onuohu is Manchester City's longest serving first team player, having joined the club at thirteen years of age and progressed through the ranks before making his debut in 2004.

Despite being selected for England's under 20's squad followed by selection in the under 21's squad during the 2005/06 season where he has become a regular he hasn't ruled out playing for Nigeria.

Earlier this month the Nigerian Football Federation announced publically that Onuohu had rejected a World Cup call up, causing outrage amongst the nation; however the player himself has justified the rejection by insisting that he would rather become a permanent fixture in a first team before embarking on his national career. This could mean he leaves Manchester City in order to fulfil both his club and career ambitions.

Hughton who is spending on a budget this season to bring his Championship winning side back into Premier League contention, will need to persuade Manchester City to reduce the valuation for Onuohu. Hughton was expected to be looking to spend £3.5M on the defender, but City expect to receive nearer £6-7M.

Fits into the criteria that Newcastle want but reckon the stumbling block will be the fee, with the way City will go on in the transfer market it may be worth it trying to secure him on loan with an option of signing him

Good player if we can get him in...don't know if he's worth 3.5M, but maybe. Good enough to start for us. Couldn't help but notice this line:

He's worth £3.5m of any teams money I reckon, strong and quick. I reckon there'll be a huge queue ahead of us though, can't see it happening.

If he's available for 3.5mil then we have to go for him, he's a good player with the potential to be a quality defender, though I'd play him at RB not CB.

We will spend money if its the right player. He fits the bill of either plenty of service for your money or a good chance of making money on him after a few years service.

Could depend on the Taylor saga. We might get more for Taylor than it would cost for him so could bank a little.

Read somewhere that he is not interested in coming here ifg Barton is still playing for us but Im sure thats just the papers stirring it up.

Defo, he will be better than Simpson, and then we have our back up incase of an injury

Mirror now carrying a rumor that Villa are in for 5M...don't trust The Mirror at all but if that's what the asking price is, we're not getting him...alright by me, considering we got the Bull for not much more than that.
