The hypocrisy at not cutting Joey Barton would be unbearable.

Joey Barton never publicly stated that he tricked the club because he didn't want to play. I don't see a clear analogy there at all. Whatever he's done off the field, when he's fit Joey gives 100%.

When Barton is fit and stays out of trouble he is a good player, but I think this has to be his last chance. Xisco has been a kn@b and slagged us off. It can't be turned around in my book

It could be turned around. And the fact the squad is thin on the ground prehaps it means it must be.

We all wanted to lynch Butt (myself included) a while back.

Maybe he should be given another chance, it sticks in my throat but beggars cant be choosers.

The problem is what about the morale of the club especially as we seem to have players that actually want to play for the club unlike the past. Morale will get dented because of results and the last thing we need is a piped up little sh@t to make it worse.

You can't tell me he is better than Carroll, Lovernkrands, Shola or Ranger

he's not but sush we're trying to flog him say nowt.

I wonder what this useless sh.1te is on. Remember it being said he was on around 40-50k a week but surely we didnt need to offer him that much for him to leave spain.

I think a while ago somebody said 50k per week, we didn't need to offer that, but it has been discussed on here loads on the amount we pay out and the bad managment of the club for years.
Atleast now Ashley is looking at it, and saying no more big moves. Works on cr@p like Xisco but we could lose out on a great prospect coming through if we can't match wages of other clubs

There's no way he can get into the team without @#$%& off everyone else in the squad. If I'm Loven or Ranger and he gets on the pitch ahead of me for a run-I'm wanting out of the team.

I think the guy is a total kn@b and isn't good enough, but he is a toon player and I want him to do good. Firstly it will benefit the toon and secondly we may be able to sell him to get some of the money back

indulge me tunyc, this isnt completely serious, BUT, given the criticism people such as you were constantly throwing at the clubs ownership throughout 08/09 (in particular), could you understand a young player such as this guy, away from home, not wanted, not getting a game when all the other strikers are out, pulling a little stroke to get a loan move?
it was naive, it was unprofessional, it was wrong, but how bad was it in the grand scheme of things?
keegan didnt want him. kinnear didnt want him. neither hughton nor shearer appeared to want him on the short periods they ran the team. is it truly unforgivable, given the shambolic state of affairs that you mentioned hourly, that xisco did what he did?

Firstly, good to see you back on here lostmekeys.

Secondly, we should forgive him for what he did because the club was a shambles at that stage as stated above. Fast forward a bit and his come back to preseason and its a clean slate for everyone so he deserves to at least try and stake a claim for a first team place by being given some game time in the games ahead just like everyone else. If he does poorly, then get rid of him and he won't be missed but if he does well then why not use him. Hence I'll support him just as I would any other Newcastle player if the manager uses him.

i kindof expect xisco to leave again regardless, but you can understand the pr angle in that hughton simply cannot afford to sound downbeat about one of his players at this point. if he leaves, ok, but if not, he cant start the season with a guy he clearly wanted to be rid of

the pills arent the answer rod. maybe, in fact, they were the problem? take a long hard look, before you're in a taxi, with chicken, lager, casual clothing and field sports equipment for the psycho of the day. its a long road back, buddy.
point is, knock him for being rubbish, fine. make a stand cos of the soap opera nonsense that he played his part in, not so fine. why judge on that?

stuff him as a person, but like it or not he appears on the books as both an asset and an expense. whats the best way to deal with that, write off the asset while incurring the full expense, or make the best we can, whether in terms of loaning him out, selling him, or if all else fails making him fight for a place?

What can I say, lmk? I'm the son of a military man and an old-school disciplinarian. I'd make an example of him. I don't think this is done enough these days, generally-but that's another story. I don't doubt he's redeemable, and there are approaches other than mine that may be fruitful. But if you're asking me to see him as a victim in terms of his relationship with the club-nah, I'll pass on that.

He is on the books of the toon, and we need to be looking at making our money back or reducing the cost of him as much as possible. So try to flog him at a loss, loan him out or use him if we need to

The other side is making the example and let him rot until we get an offer. It would be great as a club to say we are not p@ssing around anymore. But you then have to look at things and then say any more trouble with Barton, and he needs to get the same treatment. Carroll glassing or smacking somebody needs to be treated like a d@ckhead by the club. I couldn't see us doing that and I think we need to have the same rule for everybody if it then it turns into the blue eyed boy who can do what they want

the other side of this is whether kk was justified in screwing the club (leaving when he did, he made a bad situation worse), when he got a raw deal and was unable to do his job the way he would have liked, because of the people he was working for. may i draw a comparison, the main difference i see is that kk always banged on about it being HIS club, wheras xisco did no such thing?
i truly am so over the situation i have just dragged up (kk-gate), but there is something to compare, in how both men looked after themselves in the face of what they found to be unworkable circumstances.

You're bringing way too much emotion into it. If I have an employee-in any line of work-who gets out of his responsibilities by feigning injury/illness and then goes and spouts off about it publicly I WILL FIRE HIM/HER. That this situation involves an employee who makes far more money for kicking a ball than I did as a teacher would only make that easier. I'm not telling Xisco what decision to take (I would point out it wasn't very slick to talk to the press about it; I suppose being rewarded your entire life for your physical prowess doesn't really develop intellect) but I insist that he, like everyone, must face the consequences for his actions. I'm not on board with contemporary PC culture that says we should shield people from consequences so as not to be "mean" to them. Just my opinion.

For the record, I'm finished arguing about Keegan here. This discussion is about Xisco and his actions. To honor your suggestion to compare: Keegan was hired to be in charge of the squad. There was a dispute over what that entailed, precisely, and because of that he left. Xisco was contracted to play football for Newcastle United. He faked an injury so he didn't have to play and admitted it. There is no analogy.

I don't see an analogy there, again. Barton spouts off and is at times guilty of overconfidence ranging into arrogance, but intentionally deceiving your employer so you don't have to do your job is clearly a horse of a different color.

in this thread, i asked you if you swallowed the xisco story as delivered, in another thread you asked the same of us all about barton!

This was in the local press yesterday from the man himself.

Just pondering the potential of xisco. What's the best he could be? He's got a powerful shot on him, good pass and vision displayed on sunday too. He's had a horrendous start to his career with us, granted, but with hughton using him a bit more now, could he, at 24yrs old, possibly turn the whole thing around?

He could turn it around. I think Hughton just needs to keep him as a bit part. He isn't going to be a starting player (not through choice - perhaps through misfortune).

But if he can sit on the bench and make a decent contribution then so be it. We would be silly now to sell anyone without the possibility of bringing others in. So unless Hughton has an Ace up his sleeve Xisco stays and plays (though not too much).

ita wages again for me, like. if he stays he has an opportunity as a member of a premier league squad - so yes he can revive his career. i do think any offer which takes him and his salary away for the season (or for good) would be snapped up, we could use the cash saved to buy or borrow players who we want, rather than unwanted players inherited by the current manager.
if he stays, i hope he does well. a little bit hard to see that at this point, all the same

If we get a decent bid then he will go and I don't think he is in the gaffers longterm plans, but I reckon we won't get the bid so he will stay. But maybe Chris will bring the best out of him, he certainly has kept Barton quite since the took the job, and maybe he could make him into a hard working player

Even though I will probably be shot down, the bits Xisco has done recently has reminded of Kuyt over at Liverpool, both lacking abaility, but Xisco seems to be putting in a shift for the team

Are you under the impression he's on big wages? He was signed under Dekkas watch so wont be on over 25k. Bassong and Gutherie were both on 5k.



I think he's a decent player and makes a much better sub than Strola.

he was signed for 5m+ mate, you cant do that then tell his agent he isnt valued as highly as others when it comes to wages.
50k is the widely reported figure, though i accept completely that a lot of this is (often informed) guesswork by the media.
anyway, lets say it was 25k for the purposes of this thread, thats a hell of a lot of money!!

The cost/return-if he's on even 20K/week-isn't worth it. My guess is Hughton wants to give him enough of a run out to inspire interest in him. He's exactly the sort of player I could see a desperate team coming in for in January.

It was reported a while ago that he was on big wages, you don't sign a player for that money and give them mickey mouse money
