Lambert Frustrated At Forster Wait

Norwich City manager Paul Lambert says he is running out of time to sign Newcastle United keeper Fraser Forster on a loan deal for next season. Forster whose professional contract with Newcastle was extended for two years in April 2008, spent most of last season at Norwich and made 38 league appearances, picked up three yellow cards and was sent off twice.

There was a definite sense of frustration at the situation in Lamberts interview , he said;

"I can't leave it much longer. I've been on the phone with Chris Hughton virtually since the season ended.

You've got to try to keep your options open and you can't just concentrate on one thing because he's not our player.

I've spoken to Chris umpteen times on the phone and it's not as easy as some people think, that's for sure. We just have to wait and see.

There is no doubt Fraser is going to be a huge goalkeeper and we can't do anything if other teams come in for him.

There are loads of factors to it. It's not just as easy to say we're going to get him and people surmise he must be coming back to Norwich.

There are a million things that can go wrong - and basically he's Newcastle's player."

In June Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton told The Chronicle;

"Norwich is a very good option for Fraser, but I expect him to have a few and there are decisions to be made.

His progress in the last 12 months has been fantastic and, as with all players, you look to see development each season.

His stats at Norwich last season speak volumes for just how well he's been doing.

And for me it was no surprise to see him pick up such a good accolade. He deserves all the praise he gets after a great season."

Just last month it was reported that Burnley were interested in signing the 22 year old stopper as a replacement for Nicky Weaver who was released from his contract at the end of last season. Any loan deal agreed could include a release clause which is allowed in Football League loan agreements.

Anyone know whether Forsters contract has been extended by us already? I can't find anything to suggest it has, though plenty to say we aren't selling him. It was extended for 2 years in april 2008- but nada since in the media./NUFc.co.uk

Part of me wants Krul loaned out for experience since he didnt play much last season and no doubt he wont start this season either.

Maybe being in a premier league squad every week would be good for Forster. Not as much as playing but we cant loan both and Krul needs games at this stage.

For me, the decision should only be made in August. Assess both, Krul and Forster during pre season to see who should be the number 2. At this moment, Forster has only played in league one, while Krul has featured in the cups and championship for us, so he'd be the number 2. Perhaps Forster has progressed though, so we should use the pre season to check whether he has and then make a decision on who to loan.

Loaning out Krul would be good business as he would be a regluar and get him the experience to take over from Harper. Only problem would be if Harper got injured then we are relying on Forster who would do a good job but as said only has league 1 expereince

league loan deals can have a release clause factored in. So send Krul out on loan and activate the release clause if we get hit with injury problems.

Said this weekend that Krul is close and happy to sign a new four year contract. Good news.

Why loan Krul and not Forster if we're just going to recall the former if we pick up injuries? Why not loan both out and pick up a backup off the scrap heap. Then activate Krul's release clause if Harper's injured and let Forster get a full season of experience in the ccc.

How long until Krul & Forster need either to be #1 & #2 or sold? They're both talented enough to chafe at waiting behind Harper for much longer...

I'll admit, I was a bit excited about the Rumors that Celtic were after Harper. Harper's been a great servant for the club, but Krul and Forster show a ton of promise.

Agreed. Forster's a star-in-waiting, to judge by last season.

I hope that these get games either with us our somewhere else, as after this season is over I would make Krul or Forster the number one. Say a big thankyou to Harper and let him have his move to somebody like Celtic so he can finish of picking up medals and play european football

Too bad Celtic won't make the CL in 2011-12 unless they actually top Rangers in the league this coming season. Can't really see that happening.

Either way, Harper needs to be eased out soon or we're going to lose one or both of the kids-both of whom look to be potentially better than Harper ever was.

Celtic look like they're making some canny signings, Bullard, Ledley and such.

Upon further consideration, and with Rangers losing Boyd and likely to lose Bougherra you may well be right. Also Smith's impending exit will reduce any pull they might have had.
