Forster In Running For 2nd Keeper Spot With Krul Out On Loan

Newcastle United keeper Tim Krul could be loaned out this season, offering 3rd choice keeper Fraser Forster the opportunity to deputise for Steve Harper. Krul who has been second choice since Shay Given left for Manchester City has had very little pitch time and a loan spell would most certainly enhance his development.

Speculation has increased over Fraser Forster role at the club next season, with Norwich city desperate to secure his services on a loan deal after an impressive display for them last season.

However, Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton is keen to get the most out of his squad, and loaning Krul out and therefore giving Forster a spot on the bench could be the answer.

He said;

"One of the things which we are considering at the moment is whether we should allow Tim Krul out on loan next season and keep Fraser here.

We've had interest in both of them and they are both two very good young goalkeepers. We are trying to assess all our different options and we shall see what the best offer is. You have to take a lot of factors into consideration. What is the best deal for the club and what is going to be the best option for the player; we have to think about their development and what they are going to take the most benefit from.

We shall work with all three of the goalkeepers in Ireland and they will be very much a part of that, but we will have to make a decision before the season begins. At this moment in time, no decision has been made."

Hughton said of Forster;

"He is a better goalkeeper for that experience with Norwich, but we already knew that. He still trained with us fairly regularly last season and we kept a close eye on him, so we know how he has been coming along. I have to say, Norwich and Paul have been fantastic. They were very keen to take Fraser back this season, but respected our decision."

Newcastle began their pre-season training last week and have games against Carlisle and Norwich City in the coming weeks before games against PSV Eindhoven, Deportivo La Coruna and Rangers in the lead up to the start of the season.

It was said on another thread and I think it could be a wise move, giving Krul experience and then get him ready to be the number 1 for the next season

Get him signed up on a new contract before he goes anywhere, could be a great move for him gaining experience and hopefully next year him and foster will make a stronger push at harper for the number 1 shirt

Agreed, Krul needs games more as Forster was out for the whole season. Even if he went out for the first half then reviewed and we could always recall him.

At least to a championship side or even abroad.

Send them both out on loan with a clause for recall. If Harper gets hurt, bring one or the other back. Ole Soderberg can sit on the bench and finish out the game.

I would say that is the best option Waffles, both gets games and if we get an injury to the Harper during a game we still have a keeper who can come in and do a job.

Then we can review which keeper is playing the best in theirs loans and decide which one we recall.

Forster going to back to Norwich would be a good move, it looked like they progressed him last year, and are now in a better league. Krul going abroad would do me

Agree with waffles. Seems to me it'll stop or severely slow Forster's development to keep him on the bench. Also, I'd like to see if he can do as well as last season in the ccc. Obviously Forster won't be loaned at all-won't find a better situation than at Norwich. Strange.
