Davies Disappointed By Perch Sale; Chief Exec Refutes Claims

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies has expressed his disappointment at the sale of defender James Perch which was allegedly conducted without his knowledge. Perch left Forest and signed for Newcastle United earlier this week for an undisclosed fee.

Billy Davies told BBC East Midlands;

"I got a call after the deal was done to tell me James was leaving. I was disappointed but that is why the acquisitions panel is here. They decide who comes, who goes and when."

However Chief Executive of Nottingham Forest Mark Arthur refutes the claims. He said;

"The chairman had informed Billy on three separate occasions that, should we get another offer for James Perch from Newcastle that was acceptable to the business of the club then, we would not stand in his way.

At a previous meeting of the acquisitions committee the manager informed the committee that we should wait until December before offering Perch a new deal.

I then informed Perch's agent of this recommendation, which triggered a new bid from Newcastle.

Newcastle had also offered to quadruple Perch's salary and therefore, with our reluctance to offer him a new contract, it would have been wrong to stand in his way.

When an offer came through that was acceptable to the board I phoned Billy to tell him of the offer and his response was 'that is the board's decision and so be it'.

At that point we then accepted Newcastle's offer."

Yeah, but what was he on in the first place. He wont be on more than 15k a week (I wish) with us like. I wouldnt be surprised if it was nearer 10k. He came through the youth ranks and must have signed his previous contract when they were in the first division. A 21 year old lad in the first div wouldnt get much more than 2-3 grand, I would hope.

He still isn't going to be on that much with us, chance are he was on around 5k with Forest. Could you really see Ashley giving out 40k on a player from the championship, not going to happen

My guess is he'll be on 15-20k. His contract will probably be just a touch shy of Simpson's.

That "quadruple" thing was a jab to stir the pot at the Toon. Easy to say things like that knowing NUFC will neither confirm nor deny.

Looking like an interesting season coming up in the ccc, as I think Forest and Swansea will drop and with us and WBA up there's gonna be a vacuum at the top...

Oh well, not our problem...

Cardiff likely lose Ledley and Whittingham as well. Bristol looks like a surprise horse to me. Boro is the obvious favorite unless Pompey gets their @#$%& together.

Calling Pompey to bounce back. Think they're going to suprise a lot of people if they resist the temptation to have a fire sale over the next few weeks.

Might stick a cheeky bet on the Boro. Boyd will get goals and Strach will have them bang up for it.

Agree about Boyd, anyway. He should be good for 20-25 in the ccc. Holding onto Wheater will be key for them, though. And he's going to attract bids.

I wouldn't mind going in for Wheater and sending Kadar to Boro on loan as part of the compensation.

I would like to see Kadar get a few games, but agreed, a full season of games for Kadar would be great for him.

Read today in the paper about Redknapp saying thats it make or break for Woodgate at spurs. He was again crocked last year and if he comes back he has a lot of competition to get back in. He only has a year left on his contract.

Im no saying go for him as he has to have the worst injury record I have seen in a player, but, he is also the best defender I have seen at the toon. What a shame.

I think Boro are going to do well and think they will come up, I agree with Pompey being a suprise package and going to throw it out there with Norwich making the play-offs not to sure if they will make it up though

Fully agree a season long loan for Kadar would be good especially with one of the better championship sides. Woody was a great player for us and it is a shame for the lad but I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole down to his injury record

Don't think we'd be willing to part with the cash needed to get Wheater. Though we should get Kadar out on loan.
