Pre-Season: Match Preview/Thread: Norwich City v NUFC
By Tyne-Talk July 24 2010
Norwich City's Paul Lambert and Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton go head to head today in Newcastle's 2nd game in pre-season. After much negotiation already since the season ended as to whether Fraser Forster would be going back to Carrow Road on loan, it now looks like he could know be placed between the sticks against them for some of todays match.
If rumours that Steve Harper is injured are true then both Tim Krul and Fraser Forster are likely to get a run out during this afternoon's 3pm kick off.
Paul Lambert said ahead of the game;
"Chris has done a fantastic job at St James' Park. Regardless of the division you are in, if you want to achieve something you have to go out and win games week-in, week-out, and that is never easy.
This really is a great fixture for us to have - Newcastle are a huge club with a great fan-base and they enjoyed a terrific season last time out as they returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
When you look at what Newcastle achieved at Championship level last season, this really is going to be a great test for us."
Hughton also gave his comments;
"Like us, Norwich had an outstanding campaign last season and will be full of confidence being back in the Championship.
They are renowned as a good footballing side and in Paul Lambert have a terrific young manager who did fantastically well in his first season at Carrow Road.
We're very much looking forward to coming down on Saturday, playing on a good pitch and building on our game at Carlisle on Saturday.
Pre-season is all about getting your players ready for the big kick-off and that's exactly what this game will do."
The starting line up for today's game is anybody's guess, with two different teams likely to play within the 90minutes, but Steven Taylor (shoulder), Tamas Kadar (groin) and Danny Simpson (ruptured tendon) are all absent. Jonas Gutierrez could feature after returning from rest after his International appearances.

...And that's how its finished. Next up its PSV a week from now. Hopefully we'll perform a bit better although it appears Tim Krul made some fine saves to put up his hand for a first team place.
So how'd we play? Scoreline is nice, and I appreciate it, but it doesn't tell much. Thanks for the shout about Krul, Wasim. It's getting to a point where if he has the talent we believe he does it will be impossible to keep him out of the first team. Harper has been a great servant but he's not got the size (always thought listing him at 6'2" was generous) or athleticism of Krul and he's no spring chicken...
Unfortunately I was following the game from the live text off the official website so I can't answer the question relating to how we played. Reading the reports from nufc.com though, it suggests we are in need of centre back cover, with Taylor and Kadar injured at the moment.
