No-it's just that Chris decided based on our poll...since, collectively, we're always right about this club!

I wanted to vote for Lionel Messi, there was just one small flaw in my plan.

...and clearly there was no flaw at all in the plan to give nolan the band. particularly when taking nolan off after 70 minutes of doing fork-all last monday

Guthrie's not vocal enough for me, even though he'd be the first name on the sheet if he's healthy.

I'd toss it to Colocinni who really came into his own as an organizing presence on the back line last year.

I think Guthrie could be vocal if he was given that role

Still like the idea of Coloccini, if he's mastered English...

perhaps colo will find it harder than some others to get on the pitch, once sol is ready? just a thought, but williamson has looked the part so far, and his style of play is a great match for campbell. nice to have the options mind, whoever gets the nod

Think the centre backs have looked reasonably strong so far, even if we did let in 3 goals at Old Trafford. Williamson is good in the air and reads the game well and Colo is cool as anything at the back, can't see Sol getting in if they keep up the promising start.

That's a good question. Note that I didn't see yesterday's game but based on the first game, I 'd sit Williamson.

well, i've seen both, and while it is still early colo hasnt settled as well as williamson so far. he'll need last seasons form and then some to stay in the team when all four senior central defenders are fit.

Fair enough. Just vividly remember Williamson giving the ball away far too much for my liking against the mancs.

But I'd never judge after two games, even if I had seen both.

we also played a high defensive line again yesterday, which allowed villa to cause problems on the break. this was our consistent weakness last season, and will give our next few opponents at st james plenty to think about ahead of their matches here. on another day, we could have let goals in against what many have claimed to be a pooor villa side (not sure i agree they were poor, but the point stands). whoever plays will need to be very good positionally to counter such breaks. think back, when we did lose last season, it was to teams like blackpool (and teams further down the championship) who had the pace to come at us from deep when our defence were playing that high line

i'm waffling now, anyway, looking forward to seeing how we cope with the different challenge of wolves away next time out. we'll learn more about our centre halves down there, thats for sure
