Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Wolves v Newcastle Utd

By Tyne-Talk
August 27 2010

Wolverhampton Wanderers host Newcastle United tomorrow afternoon at Molineux after both teams successfully went through to the 3rd round of the League Cup in midweek. Newcastle United's starting 11 is likely to resemble the 11 who put 6 goals past Aston Villa last weekend and not the less experienced starting 11 who won 3-2 in midweek.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy welcomes back Michael Mancienne who has joined the club for this 3rd loan spell, whilst Steven Fletcher (foot) and Karl Henry (groin) are both hoping to be fit. Steven Mouyokolo (hamstring) and Jelle Van Damme (ankle) both remained sidelined.

Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton continues to be without newly transfer listed Steven Taylor (dislocated shoulder) as well as Leon Best (ankle), Danny Simpson (ankle), Dan Gosling (knee), Xisco (groin), Danny Guthrie (knee) and Sol Campbell (fitness). With the injuries piling up he may soon be forced turn to the youngsters who performed on Wednesday night to fill the gaps.

Newcastle United have not won at the Molineux in 5 games, however last season Mick McCarthy's side won just 5 games at home.

Fact: Andy Carroll has scored 5 goals in his last 5 league appearances.

Fact: The last 2 meetings between Wolves and Newcastle were in the 2003/04 season and both games ended in 1-1 draws.

Referee: Stuart Attwell Assistant referees: Ron Ganfield & Andy Newbold

Fourth official: Kevin Friend

Was at work so couldnt watch/listen to the match. I said I would be happy with a point before hand so, Im happy!

Super mac wasnt happy on the radio on the way home like. He said that the way Barton was being treated was a disgrace. Wasnt protected from the ref at all but he said that it was great that he didnt react on the pitch.

Just finished watching the extended highlights on sky.

We were definately the better team but still pleased with the point.

Rout looked very busy and caused them a lot of problems. Barton pulled the strings again and did get kicked to bits.
Carroll was again very strong and his headed goal was very good.
Everything stuck to Nolan and he could have had a hattrick on another day.

Watched match of the day, and the tackling on Barton was a disgrace, if it had happened to another player from Man U or Arsenal, then there would be up roar, if the referee had dealt with it the same way. Barton is no saint, and I was one that said kick him out, but he stuck here, and so far wound his neck in and unless referee's protect him we could easy the Barton of old back. That referee is a total f@ck@ng disgrace.

Going away and getting a point isn't to bad, and with the extra players we have who need to come back we should be better than fine.

Good to hear Barton's playing well and not popping off at opponents. What can you say? He's got to rehabilitate his reputation. The calls will come.

I wouldn't be suprised with Barton getting a England call up, if he can keep his attitude wound in and keeps playing the way he has been
