Carroll Focused On City Game, Despite The Lure Of England

Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has vowed to remain focused on Newcastle, despite the lure of an International call up being on the horizon. Fabio Capello is due to announce his squad this week for England’s Euro 2012 Qualifier against Montenegro on the 12th October whilst Carroll was absent from the squad sheet for the Under 21’s indicating he could be set for a place in the senior squad.
The 21 year old who was United’s top scorer last season and has already hit the back of the net four times this season, said of the situation;
"All I am focusing on is Manchester City and doing well for Newcastle United. It's a big game for us and one in which we are trying to bounce back from Stoke with a good result.
We have got a good group here and we will be looking for our team-work to pay off on Sunday."
Manager Chris Hughton also had his say;
"One of Andy's qualities is he is a player who doesn't really have so much fear in his game. He wants to learn, he wants to develop and he is still a young man.
We talk about the qualities he has, but he is also one who realises there are areas of his game he can improve, and that's a very good starting position.
But if in any way Andy's name is being linked to the national team, it is testament to anything he has done for us."
