Has St James' Park Lost It's Magic?

With an outstanding home run last season, remaining unbeaten and breaking records, the Premier League has sought its revenge and heaped an unhealthy start to the season on Newcastle United at St James’ Park. A lack of goals coupled with bad refereeing and some decisively bad defending have all lead to just 1 win at home this season, (albeit a 6-0 thrashing against Aston Villa).

Up and coming home games include Arsenal (cup game) on the 27th October followed by Sunderland on the 31st. Both games are live on Sky with huge audiences and with 4 home games in the coming 4 weeks failure to secure points will cause huge problems for Newcastle’s season campaign.

Aside of the 6-0 win back in late August the side have scored just 3 goals at St James’ Park in the following 3 games yet have managed to score 10 goals on the road in all competitions.

So what’s changed? It isn’t that the competition has been exceptionally good, so things are changing at the club which is being reflected on the pitch. We are dropping points where a win should be feasible.

The players are the same, the manager is the same, the fans are the same and the ground is the same, so why are we lacking defensively and failing to provide upfront on a regular basis in front of the bigger crowds?

You answer your own question-don't be so coy! It's the league. Blackpool was a blip but Wigan and Stoke are clubs that have been in the big show for a few seasons and know how to win here. Attendance is down, but I understand that's the case everywhere. So if this is affecting results, I guess it'll even out. Howay!
