Player Ratings v West Brom (A)

Peter Lovenkrands has been awarded Man of the Match by Tyne-Talks' resident player rater Wasim4nufc, for his contribution in todays 3-1 defeat against West Bromwich Albion. Read on to see how the rest of the team faired.
Player Ratings
Tim Krul (6) - Hardly to blame for any of their goals but he cannot be happy conceding three goals today.
Danny Simpson (6.5) - He put in some decent crosses going forward but was really tested by Thomas in defence. Beaten a few times with Thomas' blistering pace exposing him occasionally.
Steven Taylor (5.5) - Caught playing the attacker on side for their third goal and failed to close down the goalscorer in the lead up to the second goal. Won't be happy with his display today, although he did manage one good attempt on goal in the second half.
Sol Campbell (5) - He was very much off the pace of the game today. Caught holding up his hands in the hope that the attacker was offside for their third goal but it was clear that, it was more in hope than actually him being offside. Should also have closed down the goalscorer for their other goals. On today's showing, one has to worry about our centre backs coping with Fernando Torres next week.
Jose Enrique (5.5) - Arguably one of his worst games in a long time. Had his hands full with Tchoyi, who got the better of him a few times, which is something we don't say too often. Was not able to go forward too often as a result.
Wayne Routledge (6) - He worked hard and got one really good ball into the box but other than that it was a frustrating day for him, getting few chances to run at the Albion defence.
Danny Guthrie (5) - Went off injured with what looked like a serious injury but gave the ball away for their second goal which seemed to kill off any hopes we had of getting something from the game. As for his overall performance, he failed to get any foothold on the game and his set pieces were poor most of the time. Just not a good day for him, but let's hope he recovers quickly as we could do with his creativity even if its from the bench when Barton and Nolan return..
Cheik Tiote (6.5) - He had his moments where he showed real quality on the ball and won back the ball for us but he too was unable to get us on top in terms of possession for large enough periods in the game. Does give away some silly fouls though.
Jonas Gutierrez (5.5) - Very ineffective today. Apart from one good run which saw the ball some how cleared off the line, and one excellent cross which could have resulted in Lovenkrands scoring, he did not offer us much and was lucky to play the full 90 minutes in my opinion as I would have substituted him, if we had someone good enough to bring on in his place.
Shola Ameobi (6) - Wasn't able to get into the game and was taken off at half time. Not his fault though as we allowed WBA to have most of the possession in the first half.
Andy Carroll (6) - Similar to Ameobi, he was rarely in the game although he did have a better second half. Was involved in the build up to our goal but it was far too late then.

Substitutes
Peter Lovenkrands (7) - Made some really good runs and managed to break his duck for this season. Still needs more game time to get his sharpness back.
Alan Smith (5) - It's frustrating seeing him come on, when a player like Vuckic can't even make the bench.
Nile Ranger (5.5) - Failed to have any impact after coming on towards the end.

From what I've read, this was an appallingly bad performance.
I have to wonder what a player has to do to get a 3 or 4. Maybe intentionally score into our goal?

i must say that i disagree with you on some of the ratings, how you can give Routledge one of the highest ratings in the team is beyond me! He was woeful yet again, provided nearly nothing going forward and one of the reasons Simpson had such a hard time was the fact that Routledge barely tracked back the whole match and it was up to Tiote to come out wide to help out with defending against, this wouldn't have been so bad if Routledge then took up the gap that Tiote had to leave but instead he wandered back down the line!
To say Ranger failed to make an impact when he came on also is a bit unfair, he ran the line took on players defended and also managed to get a cross into the box, so to give him a lower score than Routledge is a bit harsh!
i would of given Tiote man of the match, he was effectively playing in a one man midfield a the other three were virtually non existant and he never gave up, he was playing as a third CB at times, helping out simpson, helping out enrique and then trying to get attacks going, yes he wasn't as good as he has been but i'm putting this down to lack of support from his fellow midfielders!
I agree this was enrique's poorest match but did he deserve a lower score than Routledge?

As for Campbell and Taylor all i can say is i cant wait for Colo and Mike to come back!
And finally we have Alan Smith after yet another typical performance where he's on the pitch a matter of minutes and gets booked i disagree with giving him a 5, infact i wouldn't give him a rating i'd give him his P45 and tell him to get lost, he's a liability and younger players aren't getting their chance
As for Hughton i'd give him a 3 and he only got this high a rating because he actually tried to change things and didn't leave it till there was 5 mins to go like usual!

I am surprised. I know how dumb most people in the world are, believe me I do. I'm still shocked by their acts of stupidity. I can't help but be emotional about it-if I felt no emotion for this club I wouldn't support it. It's all in or nothing for me.

i didnt say i didnt care, just that i think hughton will be ok, so i'm not going to wail over this. i'm achingly curious though, what has happened? it doesnt make sense the way you are reading this, he wasnt sacked over a couple of bad matches. no way.

It is a shame he was a very nice man and i'm sure he was great for the players/club but i dont think he was the right man for the job!
I hope he learns from his experiences at NUFC and goes and gets a job with a good championship club spends a few seasons learning at a lower level and then shows everyone what a good manager he is more than likely capable of being but i think it was too much for him having his second season in charge in the premier league

Too much for him? WTF are you smoking? He's gotten us to midtable with some good results to boot with essentially a championship squad. I suppose Grant, McCarthy, Hodgson, Moyes, Hughes, Holloway et al should have been fired yesterday. And they all should bring in someone with more experience...like Strachan, I guess...
