Dennis Wise On Carroll and Gonzalez
By Gallowgate Luke
December 19 2010
During his tenure at NUFC, Dennis Wise was not one of the more popular suit and tie men. Some fans even labelled him “The Poisonous little dwarf”. However, Wise has now claimed that it was he who fought to keep young hotshot striker Andy Carroll at the club when “Certain people” wanted to sell him!
Wise says he was the one who got Carroll to put pen to paper and sign a new contract. Wise also claims that he didn’t sign the Uruguayan Ignacio Gonzalez which was one of Kevin Keegan’s largest grievances with the club.
Keegan says Gonzalez being forced on him was one of the key reasons he quit SJP. I’m not trying to start a Dennis Wise fan club here but it really makes you wonder how many men were merely puppets to Ashley and his inner circle!

Must be wanting a job now, so getting himself known again
and wasnt vetere (sp) or jimenez involved in recruitment at the time, as well as wise?
Yes, Jiminez was involved in player recruitment as well.
i saw quite a few vox-pop interviews with blackburn fans last monday as the news broke. none of them were particularly upset to see him go. several said they had given up season tickets as even though the results had improved, the games were as dull as ditch.
so there you have it. there is more to it tunyc, there are results, there are performances, and most importantly, there are makems.
ok.
i really dont like his teams, i especially didnt like the last one he sent out at st james, which beat us. i gave credit on the night for his enterprise, but i wouldnt want newcastle to do that at any away ground in the world. hypocrite? i dont think so, personally.
Wise record is good if you go on stats alone, but I think he under achieved when you take into account the players he had, and should have taken Leeds up and with the players at Millwall he should have taken them up as well
Not calling you a hypocrite, lmk. I literally mean what I said above, that I was surprised.
You can get over any dislike of Wise's demeanor enough to give him credit for his managerial career. I can get over thinking SA's teams play very ugly football enough to acknowledge that he's never failed to fulfill his mission at clubs that didn't fire him precipitously.
For better or for worse, I doubt we would have been relegated had we stuck with SA.
then you tell me you're surprised at the mildest correction i suggested to the stance on wise, in a role he never took at our club?
i dont actually get the point you were making. dennis wise had a promising start to his managerial career, and had relative success before leaving his last club, leeds, to take a backroom position at newcastle. its hardly high praise to say wise wasnt a failure. whats that got to do with allardyce? and did you look up charles hughes from last time we spat in big sams direction?
jeez, we need a fixture, going stir crazy here!

No, [b]I called Wise "Nico",[b] as they're the only two people in the world who ever thought Nacho Gonzalez should be at NUFC.
isnt that what i said?
