Teen Duo Out On 28 Day Loan

Two Newcastle United teenagers are being given the opportunity of first team football by signing on loan to Gateshead. 19 year old defender James Tavernier and Faroe Islands International striker Joan Simun Edmundsson, also 19 years old, join Ian Bogie's side on initial 28 day loans.

Ian Bogie said of the deals;

"Both players are highly rated at Newcastle. Tavernier already has first-team experience, while Edmundsson has played against Italy, Russia and Estonia for his country.

I tried to bring in Tavernier earlier in the season but he was needed as cover for Sol Campbell and Danny Simpson, while Edmundsson impressed in the two friendlies we had against United.

He is strong and a good athlete. Both players have a bright future in the game and I am delighted to bring them to Gateshead.

Alan Pardew is keen for his young players to go out and get experience in the professional game and we are grateful to both Newcastle and Sunderland for their assistance.

Tavernier will come in at right back and Edmundsson, who has played up front as a lone striker for the Faroe Islands, on the left.

After the heavy defeat at Southport we needed to freshen things up and bringing three talented players in from our two Premier League neighbours will do just that."

Tamas Kadar has also gone out on loan I see, to Huddersfield for a month. I really hope he gets some good game time there as it will help in his development. Nice to see the club loaning out some of the younger players.

I agree, however, seems daft to send them out so soon when we have so many injury problems and appear to be struggling to name a bench of decent players

Agreed Carys and would rather have seen a few of them play on the weekend in the cup.

Huddersfield will be good for Kadar as Ive been very impressed how old boy Lee Clark is going about his business. Maybe Ranger could follow as I would rather (and the Toon appears to) see him stay away from London and a games at a lower league will be great for him.

I would have loaned Ranger (sitting 5th in the pecking order) before Kadar, who I'd give a game before Campbell.

But the experience will be good, no doubt.

Oh, Tunyc I would have sent the same players out on loan + Ranger,

However I would have waited until a bit later into the window to do it

That's assuming we'll do anything more, Carys. Unfortunately, I don't think we're after another CB at all. I don't think inquiring about a loan for Curtis Davies would be the worst idea. Campbell is well and truly past it.

we may get to see a bit of kadar this way, though. in the uk at the very least the bbc website carries highlights of all huddersfield matches. and lee clarke as manager is surely a safe pair of hands, too. he'll have our interests close to his heart, so wont use and abuse a young loanee.

I have always thought Clarky will come back one day as manager, I am impressed with what he has done down there

he's about the same age as i am, and i remember when he broke into ossie's newcastle squad that he was already involved in coaching youngsters at his local boys club. he was about 16!

Bloody hell never knew that about him and have even more respect for the lad. I think he has the qualities to make it but it is down to getting the chance as not many managers in the lower leagues make it high in the game
