Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Blackburn Rovers v Newcastle Utd
By Tyne-Talk February 11 2011
Newcastle United travel to Ewood Park tomorrow afternoon with both teams on 31 points. Alan Pardew’s side should be ambitious ahead of the game after a stunning comeback against Arsenal in their last Premier League game and will hope that the International break hasn’t put a dampener on his team’s spirit, whilst Blackburn host on the back of three consecutive defeats.
Newcastle have won one, drawn three and lost two of their last six games, whilst Blackburn have won two, and lost four of their last six.
Newcastle are down on strikers after Shola Ameobi fractured a cheekbone and Andy Carroll was sold off in the transfer window, but new signing, 34 year old, Shefki Kuqi is likely to start on the bench, leaving Peter Lovenkrands up front and likely to partner Nile Ranger (or Leon Best if fit).
Newcastle who have the 2nd highest number of injured players in the Premier League are without, Steven Taylor (hamstring), Ryan Taylor (ankle), Dan Gosling (knee), Alan Smith (ankle), Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg) and Stephen Ireland (knee), whilst Leon Best is a slight doubt with a hamstring concern.
Blackburn are without Gael Givet (groin) and Phil Jones (knee) but Roque Santa Cruz is expected to return from his groin injury to go straight back into the starting line-up, much to the relief of manager Steve Kean.
Fact: Blackburn Rovers have won 6 consecutive games against Newcastle United and are looking for their 7th.
Fact: Steve Harper is set to make his 100th Premier League appearance for Newcastle Utd.

several GREAT crosses in by Enrique. Wonder why he's got the ball in order to cross so much more than Guti? Whatever the reason, keep it up. Balls so good we ought to put one it by now. C'mon strikers.
0-0 ht not playing too badly really. Enrique, Jonas, Barton, Tiote all playing well we look decent at the back and are getting plenty of crosses in the box, good bit running by best too I would bring Ranger on for Lovenkrands tho.
They are a bad team for us so definately happy with a point. Shame we couldnt win if we were the better side but a point and a good performance bodes well.
Happy enough with a point but feel we could and perhaps should have taken all 3. Big game on Tuesday lets hope for something similar or better still a win
