Ameobi Added To Injury List

By Tyne-Talk
April 10 2011

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has been added to the injury list after picking up a knee problem which has ruled him out of todays game. The news comes just weeks after he returned to action wearing a protective mask, after missing most of February with a broken cheekbone. Ameobi becomes the 9th man on the injury list at St James' Park.

His absence means Newcastle have the highest number of injuries to contend with in the Premier League, alongside Birmingham City who also have 9 players unavailable.

Fergie was on the bench today - a little suprised that Pardew didn't let him lose down the wing in the last 10 mins or so. Perhaps not 100%....that reminds me, bench was a joke today. Almost entirely youth team players.

I think he was there to make up the numbers. We didn't really have many other options.

Vukic is a weird one - he hasn't even played for the reserve in more than a month! He was meant to be nearing a return when the youth team went to Italy. Very odd.

I thought the game was crying out to take a chance today, as the team was bloody useless, I would have thrown a couple of the kids on as we couldn't have played much worse.

If the kids are not good enough we will need to invest, as the bench was a bit of a joke today

The list isn't as bad as it looks.

What impact would you guys expect from Kadar, LuaLua and Smith? LuaLua would still be on loan, no? I doubt the terms of Ireland's loan allowed him to play against Villa. With Enrique healthy, Ferguson was never going to get onto the field. Gosling and HBA were always out for this match.

Ameobi, Best and Nolan are the only significant misses we didn't see coming, literally, weeks in advance.

The real problem here is the squad. We don't have backups that are good enough in several positions and we expect players to cover multiple spots as backup. All we needed to win yesterday was one more creative center mid and one more forward in the squad-players for whom we have all been crying out.

AAP said "maybe" we have too small a squad. The selections he's had to make recently should have convinced him.
