Ireland To Earn His Pay In Last 6 Games

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that loan signing Stephen Ireland will feature against Manchester United in midweek, making his first appearance for the club since he signed. Pardew also confirmed that the club have made no payment towards Ireland's wages whilst he has been out injured.

Pardew said;

“I don’t think there is pressure on him as a player, he has already proven he is a very good player at Manchester City.

The question with Stephen is whether he can do it in a black-and-white shirt. We’ve got this period between now and the end of the season where he has to show he can.

If we don’t see it in the next six games, it’s highly unlikely we are going to bring him here permanently.

He has to be comfortable at the club and we have to be comfortable with him. This is a very important period for him. He will get a bit of the Manchester United game and then hopefully he can feature more heavily after that.

He hasn’t featured yet, he’s been injured since he got here, and we hope he’s going to feature heavily in these last six games. That will really beef up our offensive capability and, if I’m honest, it needs it."

Pardew confirmed that the club have not been paying the injury prone midfielder, whilst he has sat in the stands since his arrival. He added;

“We took him injured, we understood that. The loan deal represents that, he hasn’t cost us any money, he will cost us when he plays and I can’t wait to pay some money for him.

There weren’t many better midfielders around a couple of years ago when he was at City. He was outstanding. With players, sometimes the recipe doesn’t quite work at a club – it’s the same for managers."

sounds like our so called useless management who came in for so much criticism regarding signing a injured player on loan have pulled off quite a good deal here!

Great, a player who might play six games when we've got absolutely nout up front and no cover nearly everywhere else.

I think they have pulled off a really good deal here, its a no lose situation. If and when he does play he should be giving 110% to earn a move here so hopefully we will see the best of him.

I don't have a problem with Ireland. As I keep saying, I hope he can help us. But I'm never going to be real big on signing injured players when our squad is paper thin. It's a good thing that we don't have to pay him to get treatment but that's basic competence considering he was crocked when we got him.

Or not done for the rest of the season according to Sky. That little experiment didn't work out so much then. (Sm147)
