Newcastle United host this postponed game on the back of two wins, one draw and three defeats from their last six games. Manchester United however, travel on the back of five wins and one defeat from their last six games in all competitions, their most recent being a defeat to rivals Manchester City in the weekend’s FA Cup semi-final.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew welcomes back Cheik Tiote and James Perch, who both return from suspension, but Kevin Nolan completes his 2 match ban for collecting 10 yellow cards.
Shola Ameobi is expected to return after sitting out of the game against Aston Villa with a knee injury, but could start on the bench, but goal keeper Steve Harper is a major doubt after having an injection in his knee.
Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg), Dan Gosling (knee), Leon Best (ankle) and Alan Smith (ankle) are all unavailable through injury, but Pardew confirmed earlier this week that Stephen Ireland is set to make his club debut tomorrow night having finally been confirmed fit to play.
Alex Ferguson has Wayne Rooney and Jonny Evans back from suspension, but Paul Scholes, who picked up a red card at the weekend begins his three match ban.
Owen Hargreaves (shoulder), Lindegaard (knee), Rafael (knee) and Darren Fletcher (virus) are all unavailable for Manchester United.
Whilst Newcastle are playing to add 3 points to the 6 point gap between them and the relegation zone, Manchester United are playing to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 9 points.
Fact: Manchester United have won 13 of the last 16 games against Newcastle United and are unbeaten at SJP since 2001.
Fact: Jonas Gutierrez is set to make his 100th league appearance for Newcastle, whilst Steven Taylor is set to make his 150th career league appearance.
Fact: Manchester United have only won 5 of their last 16 Premier League away games.

Feeling a bit better about this match. There's bound to be an emotional letdown after losing a semifinal, a derby at that, plus Scholes is actually an important miss for them. With Tiote back I'm hoping we can tough out a draw.

I dunno about this game.. I'm expecting a backlash from their loss at the weekend and frankly, hoping not to get absolutely thrashed. Fergie will have stuck his foot up some @#$%& since that game and I reckon they'll come at us with everything. Hold on tight it's gonna be a rough 90 minutes

Tiote's going to boss the midfield and Ferguson is going to realise he's the player to sort out Man U's midfield and table a massive bid for him!
There's going to be a lot of goals tonight i just hope we score some of them!

No Stephen Ireland in the lineup, and with the recent news about his girlfriend do we even know if he's suited up?
Also, Nolan did not sound too confident in us winning. He said we're playing "for a point" before he corrected himself. Hopefully, this isn't the mentality we are bringing to the pitch.

all the lads are doing well, i've been impressed with Ameobi and jonas had a chance he should of done better with and loven has had 2 good opportunities, we certainly aren't bending over for a spanking like many pundits expected!

good result well played lads, the two penalty decisions will be the big talking point no doubt.
imho lovenkrands definitly got caught and the ref should of give it. the man ure pen looked very very slight contact and the rat took a dive after, the ref made the right decision. but overal im very happy with the result and the preformance.

The ref was consistent and that's all I ask. I can't blame him for not giving anything in a contest that tight unless it's obvious. From what I've seen, a draw is a fair result.

we went for it in the first half to see if we could test them and then changed to absorbing their attacks and hitting them on the break in the second. Pardew got the tactics and changing our game plan spot on.
It really was an excellent result and to match Man Utd for shots etc is a testament to how well the team can actually play, had we had a striker on form last night we could of easily won the match!

I think something this game proved was that when we play well we can match any team. Added to that is the fact that Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool have all come to St James Park and been unable to beat us this season. Well done lads.

Very true, Wasim. Our starting XI tends to hold its own...then again, we also got pasted 4-0 by Stoke recently so let's not get ahead of ourselves.
To me it starts with getting a consistent goalscorer. If Gervinho's on the end of the cross Loven sent wide we might have won that match.

Thats the problem we dont have consistency, and we need to start thinking of the big games as the likes of Wigan, Stoke, Wolves and the usual cr@p at the bottom of the division, they are the games we need to win and then the bonus is if we get anything from the likes of Man U, Chelsea and the top teams
