Swansea Reject Toon Bid For Taylor

Newcastle United have had a £1million bid for 22 year old Swansea City defender Neil Taylor rejected, as the Chairman Huw Jenkins confirmed he is very much a part of their Premier League plans.
Jenkins said;
"I spoke to Neil's agent today and he understands the situation. He has an important role to play at this club. We recognise Neil as a young, talented Welsh player.
We brought him here from Wrexham and have helped nurture his development. He adjusted very well to the Championship last season and we look forward to seeing him play a big role as we enter the Premier League.
That is why we have rejected Newcastle's bid. We have a big challenge ahead in the Premier League, but together we can maintain the progress made by this club over the last few years."
Taylor made 32 appearances for Swansea last season and was rumoured to have a £1million release clause in his contract.

Their manager said on sky a couple of weeks ago that he had a clause in his contract for a million pound and that they couldn't stop him from talking. The way he was sounding was that he wanted a bidding war if the lad had to leave.

Sounds like we didn't offer 1M. Just going with Occam's Razor here. Or he doesn't have a clause. Or it's somehow affected by promotion to the PL. Either way, they're taking a chance not cashing in. They look pretty likely to head right back down.

According to nufcblog Swansea are asking for 10M and Taylor is looking to take legal action for breach of contract.

yeah, I just cant see there not being a clause as Naylor wouldnt sh17 in his own nest by stating he wants a move. He was playing first division football last year before Swansea took him on but they must have been happy to put the clause in. I think they got him for next to nowt as he was out of contract.

That's pretty much right on, Biffins. Rumor is that Swansea's board want to use a loophole in the wording of the release clause to claim that it only allows the bidding team to discuss terms with the player. Supposedly the bidding club would then have to agree a fee.
It makes no sense.
I understand that this was also precisely the issue with Priskin-a willful and unsupportable misreading of the contract.
I don't think this one's over yet. One good question I saw asked, though-if he has a 1M release, why haven't other clubs moved for him? Surely a quality young LB should generate demand...

There were other clubs interested apparently. This doesn't put Swansea's recruitment drive in a good light ahead of there first season in the big league. Dodgy sheep @#$%& @#$%&.

It's just too bad this has been blown up...it will cause there to be more interest in him. Would have liked to get this done quietly. Something tells me that announcing his availability to other clubs is the point of Swansea's foot-dragging.

love how they talked big about trying to get senna then said his wages were too high surely they should know a player who was able to fit into spains euro 2008 squad isnt gonna be on 20k.

No doubt, Daragh. I just don't see how they're going to get it done. They've lost De Vries and Pratley, who was actually an important player for them. Now they're set to lose this guy and they haven't gotten a ton of cash in the process.
