Barton Denied Visa Despite Recent Trip To Los Angeles

Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton has been denied a Visa to the USA despite being photographed in Los Angeles just last month and Tweeting his way around LA, Hollywood and then later Venice. He returned from the States just 2 weeks ago. However, Barton may not have needed a full Visa for his holiday which could explain the reasoning behind the refusal.

Tweets from his trip included;

“Play sports, stay in school, don’t take drugs. RIver Phoenix RIP”

It has now been confirmed that he is unable to join the First Team on their pre-season tour. He told Nufc.co.uk;

"Unfortunately, I was denied my visa due to my past.

I regret not being able to travel with the club on this trip, but at the same time, I don't expect to be treated any differently or more favourably than anyone else in a similar situation.

I can do is continue to improve as a person, which is what I intend to do.

Again, apologies to all the NUFC supporters, as well as the fast-growing legions of football supporters in the United States who I was looking forward to meeting. I will see you in the future."

A later Tweet confirmed the story;

"Visa story is correct, they told me am not allowed in until I have 5yrs without any trouble. 3yrs down, 2yrs to go."

"Total hypocrisy considering what they get up to, but rules are rules."

The club have refused to comment on his previous trip, but a full Visa is not required to holiday in the USA, only to work.

Striker Nile Ranger has also had his Visa application refused due to his criminal history, he will join Barton and the Reserve team on the trip to Holland.
