78% Would Take N'Zogbia Back, Whelan Resigned To Losing Him

Of the 133 people who voted in the Tyne-Talk poll "Would you take Charles N'Zogbia back", 78% said they would. Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed that the 25 year old has not travelled with the club for their pre-season games and seems resigned to the fact that the French International is set to leave this summer.
Whelan said;
"Villa are not the sole bidders, there are another couple of clubs who are desperate to sign him.
It depends how much they can pay up front, because we have got to re-spend that £10million this season just to replace Charles.
I have always said for £10million he is an absolute snip, if Downing can change hands for £20million I don't know what Charles is worth. He is the fastest, most direct wide player in the Premier League and I have always asked for £10million and hopefully we will get it and he will move on and be happy.
He only has 12 months left on his contract. I would love to keep him, he is a great lad and a fantastic player, but everything being as it is we have to be sensible and if we get a decent offer, and Charles wants to go, as usual I will honour what the player wants and let him go.
The team have gone to Austria, but Zoggy hasn't gone.
He is a great lad to have around the club. If we do lose him, and we may well do, because he has expressed a desire to move on, we will miss him enormously. But he is a great asset for any football club who wants him."

Look, if we had a need in that position I could probably hold my nose and accept him back as he's very skilled. That said, we now have three players (Jonas, Marveaux and Ferguson) who play that position and another (Lovenkrands) who is a serviceable fill-in. IF this amount is to be spent, and that's a big IF, it should be spent on a forward or a fullback or two.
Have to agree with you pal. I know he can play in a few positions but he isnt a striker which is more like what we need. Plus a lot of the talk of us being interested in him was prior to marveaux signing. You can see why we would go for him for nothing than take the risk on a player who can be great or go missing one game to the next.
I am in agreement, had we been in a position where we needed more players for that position I would take a chance on him, but we have a few but then I do think Jonas will be sold, so we could be looking for another left winger, as I reckon ferguson will be the left back once Enrique is sold.
Be interesting to see what Villa do next year, with losing 3 big players. Given is a good signing, N'Zogbia will do a good job there and I wonder hwo much of the Downing and Young cash will be spent.
I don't know how much will be spent, but they need to get to upgrading their squad, especially when you consider they shed Milner and Barry in the two previous seasons and never really replaced them. (You might have heard: Ireland didn't really take.) On the other hand, they've spent a lot at Villa over the last several years so their situation re: transfer funds isn't analogous to ours at all.
Speaking of Ireland, did anyone hear his crack in the papers the other week. He was chanting on about never really wanting to come here and it was forced on him. He was trying to make the right noises about wanting a second chance under the new management. That boy has issues and Im very glad we didnt sign him.
I agree the lad has lots of potential and makes the space in the game when he can bothered, but it looks like he isn't interested, so can see the lad being forgotton about fairly quickly.
But I suppose with Villa he may fit in, as Big Eck likes to play a 4-5-1, so you would imigane he would play in the Nolan role
