Airey Loan Cancelled

Hibernian have confirmed that 19 year old Philip Airey has had his loan agreement cancelled by mutual consent of both parties. The striker who signed on a 6 month deal in August 2011 subsequently picked up a thigh injury during training, having only played 18 minutes for the club. Newcastle United have since been rehabilitating Airey.
Back in August when the deal was agreed, manager Colin Calderwood had said that he would have taken Airey on loan when he left his position at Newcastle if a hamstring problem hadn't seen the deal collapse.
At the time Airey, who has been through the Academy at Newcastle United since the age of 10 said;
"I'm really pleased to be joining such a big club like Hibernian and I will be looking to challenge for a first-team place.
I love it at Newcastle, but I'm now getting to an age where I need to get first-team games under my belt and hopefully I will achieve that with Hibernian."
His absence has seen him drop down the pecking order at Hibernian, ranking 5th in line for a starting position, making his loan deal no more effective than being at Newcastle.
Hibs confirmed the situation by releasing the following statement;
"Phil Airey’s loan agreement has become null and void between the two parties.”
