Newcastle United travel to the Midlands this weekend for tomorrow’s game against Wolves. They travel on the back of four wins and two draws in the last six games in all competitions, whilst Wolves host on the back of three wins, one draw and two defeats from their last six. Both teams play after Carling Cup wins in midweek.
Mick McCarthy may be without Richard Stearman (toe) who could be replaced by Matt Doherty, whilst Ronald Zubar (groin), Kevin Foley (ankle), Jody Craddock (hamstring) and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (ankle) all remain sidelined.
Steven Fletcher (groin) returns after starting on the bench last weekend and Wolves will be boosted by the news that Kevin Doyle has signed a new contract for the club.
Alan Pardew will offer Davide Santon his debut from the bench after he was included in the squad having recovered from a knee injury and playing 90minutes for the reserves in midweek.
Shola Ameobi (shoulder), Mike Williamson (ankle), Haris Vuckic (broken hand) and Alan Smith (hamstring) are all injured.
Leon Best and Demba Ba both have three goals each for Newcastle, Ba getting his first goal and hatrick against Blackburn Rovers last weekend.
During this game last season a record 12 yellow cards were shown, 7 Wolves players and 5 Newcastle players.
Fact: Newcastle United are unbeaten so far this season and are the only team in the league not to have conceded two or more goals in a game this season. The best defensive record in the Premier League this season.
Fact: Newcastle United are unbeaten in 9 top flight games – their best record in 9 years. They have also had the best start to a season since 1994/95 campaign when their first defeat came in the 12th game of the season.

I have to try and avoid a score until 12:30 my time because the tv coverage is delayed. My guess is I'll be here at 10 getting updates from you lot!

Jonas has been my star in Fifa 12. 5 goals, 3 assists in 7 league matches. Ba and Ben Arfa have 3 assists a piece.

We got lucky, but sometimes it's better to be lucky then good. We've got a nasty November fixture list on the horizon, so the more points we get now, the better. A week off before Spurs at home, then 3 winnable games to close out October.
I can see us getting 13 more points (Wigan, Norwich and Swansea should all be wins, draws with Stoke, Everton, Bolton, Brom are not unreasonable) before New Years.

After avoiding the score and watching the match 2 and a half hours after it happened I can add to the we were lucky sentiment but its 3 points we'll take!

Game on here at 12:00pm had to go to work at 12:15pm, DVR and watch at 11:00pm.
First 60-70 very good, some breaks like the Saylor pen call but overall looking good, then we play not to lose instead of going for the kill. Loven???? What's that all about?! Guthrie?!?! Keep pushing for more, I say, Bring on Marveaux earlier, bring Ben Arfa on, give Stanton a run out.
Happy with the points and well deserved but have to attack the whole game. As in the NFL, the "prevent" defense "prevents winning". Don't take the foot off the gas until the final whistle blows. How many yellows does Krul have for time wasting at this point? At least two, just keep pushing forward and get more.
Thought Saylor, and Krul were out of their skulls today and Simpson had a great defensive game. If we have an "off day" I can see us getting routed with 6+ goals against, but hell, third in the table is pretty nice. How sweet would it be to finish ahead of the dirty rats at the end of the season.

Very belated response: great result. We're getting some luck, sure. Weird feeling, that.

28 points would put us on pace for an 8th place finish at worst (granted that's assuming we don't get slaughtered in January without the ANC people). If we sneak a couple extra points in November from the Mancs and Chelsea as well as win a couple that I pegged as draws, we could see us over 30 heading into the second round of fixtures.
What's separating this squad from the recent past ones is we're actually winning the games we're supposed to (Wolves, Fulham at home) instead of blowing a lead or getting torn apart (Blackpool @ home last year). That's a tribute to one man alone.

Very true. All is well for now and Pardew's doing the job in terms of keeping the squad in games and happy. I still think he needs to change tactics to get the best out of this squad though.

Over the moon with this result as Im sure everyone was. We were lucky I will admit it but how much luck have we had over the last few years.
It was nice to see Jonas take the p155 out of them after they had tried to kick lumps out of Tiote.
