Krul: I Wear The Jersey But I'm Not No.1 Keeper

Newcastle United stopper Tim Krul, has heaped praise on his goalkeeping colleagues and insisted that he may currently be first choice between the posts but he doesn't see himself as the club's number 1 keeper. Krul, who joined Newcastle aged 17 and has waited 6 years for this opportunity remains modest about his ability.
He told the Daily Star,
“I’m in possession of the jersey at the moment but that’s all. The manager told me at the start of the season: ‘You have to show me every week that you’ve earned the shirt’.
That’s what I’ve been trying to do.
It’s a long campaign, however, and I don’t feel as though I’m No.1 yet. I’ve had to wait for my time to come along but I feel this is the right time for me. I’m ready. Harps knows how it is and how it works.
He’s been there and done it but from the moment I arrived, he’s been a teacher for me.
Steve is still there giving me tips all the time and that will never change.
There’s a healthy rivalry and Rob Elliott’s another who has come in, keeping me on my toes.
To be honest, apart from the second half against Fulham, I’ve not been that busy and that’s down to those in front of me,” he explained.
The focus on the defence has brought about a massive change this season.
The manager really focuses on the back line and always says that if we do concede, it should be from a deflection or something we couldn’t do anything about.”

He has done amazing this season, and I am glad he has been given a shot, as we talked a lot before the start of the season who would be the number 1. The defence seems stronger now as well where last season we would have fallen apart in some of the games.
Between last season and this his aerial game has improved dramatically, now he just needs to work on his distribution skills.

Ive mentioned on here lots about how much I rate Forster but he did disappoint me during last season when he was talking about not being prepared to sit on the bench. You have to earn your shirt and Krul has done that.
Lets hope if he carries on like this he gets a nice big contract at Xmas.
