Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Newcastle Utd v Everton

Newcastle United host Everton today in the 12.45pm kick off. Newcastle go into the game still unbeaten in the Premier League and in 3rd place, 3 points ahead of Chelsea and Spurs in 4th and 5th. They have won four, drawn one and lost one (Carling Cup) game in their last six whilst Everton, who are currently in 10th with 10 points have won one and lost five of their last six games in all competitions.
Manager Alan Pardew will be without Gabriel Obertan (infected toe) and Shola Ameobi (hamstring) whilst Cheik Tiote is expected to have recovered from a knee problem and is set to return to the starting eleven.
David Moyes is expected to welcome back Phil Neville (hamstring), Tim Cahil (foot) and Royston Drenthe who has served a match ban. Sylvan Distin will be assessed early today to see if he is fit to play, but is expected to start.
Marouane Fellaini will be on the sidelines as he serves a 1 match ban.
Newcastle have won five and drawn four of their last nine home games, but Pardew will be taking no chances against Everton, after saying earlier this week that he believes David Moyes is one of the best managers in the world. However going into the game, Everton haven’t kept a clean sheet in the last nine games (league & cup).
Newcastle on the other hand have fought hard for their points and have played the most consistent football seen by fans in years, putting on a united front and working well as a team, game after game, and are having their best run of form in 61 years.
Fact: Newcastle are unbeaten in the League in 13 games (including the last 3 of last season).
Fact: According to Opta, Everton have the best tackle success rate in the Premier League at 81.5%.
Fact: Opta have recorder Demba Ba as have the best shot to goal conversion rate of all the 13 players in the Premier League to have scored 4 or more goals this season at 47%.

I think I'd switch Jonas to the same side as Coleman. Most of their chances are going through him and Marv doesn't defend like spiderman.

Ryan Taylor's was 100% deserving of being the winner. Stunning strike.
Guthrie was solid, in my opinion, for the third consecutive game. His yellow card was a smart professional foul that probably saved us 2 points.
Good work from Sameobi, and I thought Ben Arfa did well in his 20 minutes. 2 forced subs though makes life far more difficult than it needs to be.

Great three points today. We were up against a good team, albeit their finishing was poor but we stuck in there and got the win despite having two players go off injured. Some big games coming up but for now I'll enjoy the moment!

Another great result with a few forced changes. Colo was outstanding and very pleased with Raylor. His strike was top draw.
I said to a few of the lads before the Stoke game that out of the next five games (Stoke-Chelsea) I would be happy with 4-5 points. Well thats 6 we have already and I dont see why we couldnt sneak a point at Old Trafford with the way they are playing. Chelsea is also a possibility depending on what team turns up.
To get something though we need Tiote and Cabaye back fit.

I thought that 7 or 8 points would have been fantastic, and thought we would have got 6, with us getting a draw against Stoke, so to me they are doing fantastic.
I do think against Everton we got lucky, and if we play like that against the big 3 then we will get ripped apart in the centre of midfield as I thought that yesterday once Cabaye went off we didn't close down quick enough and if you give the likes of Silva or Rooney that much time then we will be scr@wed, and I would like us to defo against City and United to play a 5 man midfield to try and stop them playing which would mean Guthrie getting in even if we had a fully fit team, against Chelsea possibly the usual formation as I do think they could be there for the taking or even a point.
Even though we didn't play great I am over the moon with the result, and it shows how far the club has came in such a small bit of time, as last year I do think we would have crumbled under the pressure, the defence is looking good and Taylor and Colo are looking as good as anybody in this league, Jonas had a poor game yesterday but he has defo won me over with all the work rate.

Best also went off injured against Everton and it looks like Ben Arfa is being lined up to start against citeh so i would guess from this we will be going for a 5 man midfield!

I am hoping it is a 5 man midfield, and against city I would have Tiote, Cabaye and Guthrie if all are fully fit with one of them doing a man for man marking on Silva. Against United I would have Ben Arfa in instead of Guthrie as the game is more open and United defence is weak if attacked the right way
Against Chelsea I would go for it, Best and BA up front as with enough pressure and the way the full backs attack there is enough space to get behind the CB's
