Could Chelsea's £20M Be Enough For Tiote?

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed what he has always said, that every player has their price, however in the case of Cheik Tiote it would have to be highly inflated for them to consider allowing him to leave.
The Ivory Coast International, who will be playing in the African Cup of Nations in January has been lined up as Chelsea's main target for the January transfer window. There was speculation of a move during the summer but the rumour mill was proved wrong as Tiote stayed on Tyneside to help Newcastle to a fantastic start to the season.
Pardew told The Sunday Mirror, that he doesn't plan on any player leaving after Christmas, nor does he plan on bringing in more than two new faces. However, he has confirmed that if crazy money was offered for Tiote, who joined from FC Twente for £3.5million, then they would have to consider it.
He said;
“It is going to cost a hell of a lot of money, a hell of a lot of money because we’re in that position now.
I think any of our players that get linked to other clubs, those clubs are going to need to know they’ll need to pay a shed load of money to get anyone out of this football club.
I don’t envisage anyone going out in this window.
But if a club, one of the top clubs, comes in and wants to pay way, way over the odds we’ll have to look at it.
We have looked at the African Nations Cup and we have looked at the next window. I think the maximum we would do is two players in. That would be our maximum. Then if anyone left, it would be a third.”

I dont see how this is Pardew saying every player has his price, he's obviously been asked about the rumours of teams being interested in Tiote and has said that if someone came in with a ridiculous offer then they would have to think about it just as any team in the country would do with any of their players!

Under Ashley, every player definitely has a price. They can double their £20m before I'd consider, Cheick is the player that makes us tick.

For £20m I reckon that Chelsea would look elsewhere - they can attract arguably better for less. Perhaps Rodwell...if Everton's takeover talks dry up again.

I agree with the three above.
They paid 17mill for Ramierez so can do one if they want Tiote they can start with double the 20 mill. Not that I want/think he will go. Chelsea have an abundance of CM and have Romeu who they bought in the summer. I can really see them going for a CB before another CM as Luiz can also play there. He probably should as he cant defend in this league.

I think our board will break the hand off anyone who makes a serious 20M bid. But as you guys point out, will anyone actually come with that? Who knows, but I can't rule it out.

There's only Chelsea, Man Utd or Man City who could offer or likely to offer that sort of money, Chelsea have other problems namely needing 2 new central defenders and to be fair Man City dont need Tiote, Man Utd could be interested but have CM's who they would need to get rid of before swelling the ranks again!
After those 3 you have arsenal tottenham and liverpool, they could all probably afford him but would Arsene spend that much on one player, tottenham have just bought parker so i cant see them being interested and liverpool have spent a fortune so far with little return although KD does like buying newcastle players!

Man United would probably go after Cabaye more than Tiote. Honestly, Schweinsteiger is the guy they need as he's a complete package and could pair well with Carrick, Fletcher, Park, or Anderson as needed.
Nuri Sahin would have been another great buy for them, but Jose Mourinho is hoarding all the young center-mids (Khedira, Ozil, Sahin). I'd wager that he goes after Markus Henriksen this winter.

Krul is better than the first choice keepers at both Arsenal and Tottenham.

All of those teams may be in for Tiote, mental. The verdict at CFC has to be that Mikel is not good enough. City don't need him, but that never kept them from going for a CDM (they are managed by an Italian) and De Jong's contract talks have broken down. I agree that United could use Cabaye more than Tiote. I've been worried about that and now that Cleverly's picked up a knock I'm very worried. As for Krul-not only is he better than Spurs' starter, he's also 17 years younger.

i'll be very suprised if any of them leave in jan, i think after the start we've made they are going to want the team to push for europe this season so that we have that money coming in and to do this we need to keep our better players and strengthen, if we dont make it then i can see us selling some of our better players in the summer!

Agree more with Mental here. Was Tiote not meant to go last January or the Summer just gone. Somebody may go but until it happens lets not worry about it too much.

I have no doubt that Tiote will be sold if a 20M bid comes in, but I do doubt that will happen.
Biffins-you're right. Colo is the big concern. His contract talks seem to have ground to a halt. He has me very worried, since we already need another CB, even after Williamson returns.

I know Ashley let Given go for a steal but I dont see why he would let him go for 20 mill. 20 mill is not enough for us and he will know this. Ashley likes a gamble and has the money to knock it back.
Also the January window always adds a premium and the bidding clubs will really want him so why let him go on the cheap.

We have being heavily linked with a whole host of defenders who are probably better than Williamson, if we get just one of these then that'll put williamson down to fourth choice cb and i can see MA wanting to cash in on him and use a young lad as our 4th choice cb again this depends on if colo stays or goes!

If we bought an other CB then I could see CH coming in for him on loan in january for a possible promotion push. This could probably be good for both parties as long as there was a recall option.
As far as a buy goes he has been great and a really good professional. I was a big fan last season but a lot of us mentioned getting another CB to push on to the next level. I really didnt see it being Taylor mind you who I have criticized in the past.

Did read an interview write up recently in which Kadar said he still wanted to play here. Who knows. I guess this comes down to me having a fantasy about 4 quality CBs in the squad...

Tunyc i honestly think we'll wait till the summer to start selling if we going to, they'll see what happens this season and if we get into europe!
As for williamson, if we buy another proper cb that'll make him 4th choice, all of the players we are looking at for full backs seem to be able to play in the centre also, apparently simpson is the lowest paid first team player and is on 10-15k so that means mikes likely to be on 15-20k, so they sell him and have 3 out and out cb's and have a young lad as 4th choice and fullbacks who can play there in an emergency!
As for europe with us being out of the european picture for so long i've lost track of the financial benefits so dont know what money we will be involved but will we actually try and take part in europe or just take the money for qualifying and play our reserves

Mental-if Simpson goes we need two more fullbacks and another center back. I'm fine with one guy who can cover a few positions but I don't think you can go with 6 first-team defenders and think you're alright because two of them can provide backup for four positions. (Note: Santon does not play in the middle of defense, never has.) So a corps of 7 defenders can work, with maybe one of the kids for emergencies.
If Simpson does go, I'd be fine with:

Saylor
Williamson
Raylor
Santon
Pieters
Ridgewell
Kadar
...but that'll cost us around 10M in fees and a new contract for Colo. We'll see.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned this yet but if we can get £35 mil for Carroll then what could we get for Tiote?

I think a few posts above mention similar things Ronaldo.
I hear you about the Cabaye thing. The same was said as soon as Tiote showed us what a good player he was. Very similar circumstances. Two players that we knew nothing about, picked up for a bargin. Queue the Ashley will cash in for a quick profit rants in the next window.

RIADF: if you applied that logic, you'd think we wouldn't get lowballed for Enrique but, alas, we were. Now if Chelsea open with a bid of 20M, I don't doubt that we'll try to get 30, but it doesn't mean it will work. If the final offer were 20M, our front office would see nothing but 16.5M in profit.
And Biffins-not like those rants were based on nothing. The deal for AC and Pardew's comments about every player having their price make some of edgy about our prospects of keeping any really good player.

Don't know what you expect from AP, every player has the price as the club is different what it is years ago, can't see Tiote going for 20 million though, as he is on a long contract as well as his age, if it is in Jan then reckon it will be the 25 million bracket if in the summer then you could see him going for that price.
Probably all goes on what happens at Chelsea as will AVB still be in charge by then knowing the owner or will he go wild in the market again, I would reckon that if he does wild then defence and a creative midfielder will be the ones they target.
Hoping that he stays but he will be gone in less than 2 years guarantee as the lad should be playing at a higher level

It is reported that Essien will be back early next year but suppose he does have a bad injury record and who knows how well he will return.
As a mentioned above they just signed Romue from Barca in the summer and by all accounts had a good game against Wolves.
I love the lad and he is great.... for us. Maybe we rate him more than other teams do. Like Cabaye, he has been great for us but it doesnt mean that everybody will be queuing up. Maybe the money a team would have to part with could put them off. I think Man U would have loved to have got Schneider this summer but 30-40 million was just too much. Enrique's contract was coming to an end that puts buying clubs in the driving seat and we would have rather had something than nothing for him, his price doesn't reflect a player with 4/5 years left on his contract!
We can all speculate as to who will be playing in the defence but i still think if we strengthen the defence then Williamson could be a player who is moved on, he's too good to be fourth choice and probably on too much money for the current owners to have sitting not even on the bench!

All I expect from AP is for him to base squad-building on his vision for us on the pitch and not just on the front office's fiscal ideology. Compromise must be reached but with recent dealings and utterances all seem to flow one way.
