Simpson Told Sign or Be Sold

Defender Danny Simpson could be talking himself out of a contract if he doesn’t crack on and sign a new deal at the club. The 24 year old who used his uncertainty at the club as his defence in a magistrates court case just last month has failed to agree terms with the club, despite a 5 year deal on the table.
Pardew, who has this week talked about offers to Simpson, who has 19 months left on his current contract, and captain Coloccini, has made it very clear that failing to sign could see Simpson moving on just as he has secured a regular first team place.
He said;
“It will be as dangerous for Danny as it is for us.
He’s a player who within 18 months has broken into the team and established himself as a first-team player. Now we have a situation where I guess he feels he should be rewarded with a new contract – and I agree with that. Really all we’re talking about is the figures and that is very, very difficult at this level.
At the moment we think we’re here and he probably thinks we’re somewhere else.
If we can’t reach agreement, he’ll have to move on – it’s as simple as that.”
Ahead of today's game against Manchester United Simpson has promised to show Sir Alex Ferguson and the United fans that they were wrong to sell him.
He said yesterday;
"I always have something to prove to Sir Alex. I'm a United fan. I had a good time there but I'm part of a good Newcastle team now.
I go back to Old Trafford looking to play well and to prove a point.
I'm happy here and they want me to stay."
However, last month he was quoted in court on a speeding offence, claiming to be in "exceptional hardship" and suggesting he will be available in the January transfer window.
He said;
“There is a chance in the future that I will be moving, whether in the transfer window or in the summer. I have 18 months left on my contract and I don’t think it will go past that.”
He added;
"I don't see a chauffeur as an option because they cost a lot of money. I'd have to rely on teammates and taxis. I earn less money than most Premiership players although I am on good money."
He then went on to say he isn't on the sort of money Wayne Rooney is on. As Mike Ashley doesn't pander to greedy demands, it is unlikely Simpson's wages are ever going to liken those of Rooney, but a 5 year deal on the table isn't one to be sniffed at.

We've gotten great value out of Simpson, though he isn't a worldbeater. AP should certainly hesitate a bit before he acts on the belief he'll be easily replaced. But then, it's not his decision to make, is it?
There was talk that he refused 15k/wk when he originally signed which doesnt bode well for his side of the argument. Fair enough if they have offered him the same money or a slight pay rise but if its 20-25k then its nothing to be sniffed at. We dont know that his agent isnt asking for 40k a week which say Steven Taylor is on.
This is only his second season in the top flight and before coming to us never held down a place or turned the head of any manager. He is 25 in January but he hasnt played many games. If you compare him with say Clyne (who we have been linked with) who has over 100 games for Palace and is five years younger. I appreciate it is a lot easier to break through at Palace than Man U.
He has done canny but he must realise that he hasnt pulled up trees and he isnt a striker where you can earn big money. I think Cabaye was reported to have signed for 40k. He is in a pivotal role and a french international so maybe Simpson should sign. If he carries on to improve/becomes and international then you know he would get an improved deal. He hasnt showed this up to now.

If he is going to act like a nob everytime his contract needs renewing or everytime he or his advisors think that he needs a pay rise then we are aswell selling him and bringing in someone like Clyne who is younger and looks better!
Please remember before you start slagging of the club yet again that a lot of people on here were calling for him to be dropped not that long ago!
