Taylor Injury Could Mean Up To 6 Months Sidelined

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor could be out for the rest of the season after limping off in the closing minutes of today's game against Chelsea at St James' Park. Taylor joined Fabricio Coloccini in the stands after both picked up problems during the game.

Coloccini went off before half time on with a thigh strain, whilst Taylor failed to finish the game, with Alan Pardew having no substitutes left to play.

Pardew told Sky Sports;

"We'll have to wait and see. Coloccini has got a thigh strain, so maybe next week or the week after we might be struggling. Steven looks a little more serious."

Taylor will have a scan tomorrow to assess the seriousness of the injury, the good news could be that he misses 6 weeks, the bad news could see him sidelined for up to six months, effectively ending his season.

Either way its bad news for Newcastle, who are already without Mike Williamson and have very limited cover, meaning Pardew will have to rely on Mike Ashley in the transfer window to get his cheque book out and allow him to pad out his squad.

This is truly terrible news. Its mentioned that it could be a ruptured achilles. Pardew said 6 weeks at best, 6 months at worst.

I really dont know what we will do for the 5 games until the window opens. I would like to see Kadar involved and this could be sink or swim time for him. Its a big ask for a lad who hasnt featured much but we dont have much of an option. People have said Santon as he is over 6ft but I've never heard of him playing there. Perch did ok apart from being nowhere for Drogba's goal but is obviously not good enough.

Out of premiership teams there are not many CB available that I can see. Yeah, there is Cahill but he will have his eye on a bigger team and people will want him. I like Nedum Onuoha from City and he can play FB as well as his natural CB. Carlos Cuellar will only have six months left on his deal but is 30 and probably goes against our youth policy.

My feeling is any players will come from abroad though. There is Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa who has been mentioned and hopefully Pieters who is also supposed to be able to play there.

Certainly there are guys to be had-in January. Hopefully we'll be back in for Pieters, who can play CB. Or someone. Until then, presumably it's Perch or Kadar. I'd have Santon play there in training, to see what he can do. Are there any free agent center halves around?

Pretty much. Reaping the result of letting Campbell walk with no replacement.

is an emergency loan possible or is that just for keepers?

Never heard of them for players other than keepers. We'd be told-reasonably-that you don't get an emergency loan just to avoid playing someone out of position. For now it's down to the back ups, kids and whoever might be on the scrap heap.

Pretty bleak, really.

i've had a quick look and you can have outfield players on emergency loans with the fact that our only recognised cb is kadar we should be able to bring someone in!

Whatever the rules allow, I can't think of one instance of a team being allowed one for anyone other than a keeper. But if it's possible, I suggest Kolo Toure who apparently wants to leave City anyway.

I thought you were only allowed goalkeepers, but don't reckon they will let us bring somebody in on loan. Hopefully AP is has got something up his sleeve for the game and I am hoping it is about protecting the defence as he has said Perch is defo playing.

I would be going for:
Krul
Raylor, Simpson (CD), Perch (I would have went Kadar), Santon
Obertan, Gosling and Cabaye (both sitting to protect), Guthrie pushing on, Jonas
BA playing as a lone striker

If we go for a 4-4-2 we could be in trouble with the defence especially as Colo and Williamson won't be fit.

With this formation, it adds plenty of protection, and still gives us a bit of pace to attack with the wingers and BA

i just googled the emergency loan rules it said it is predominantly used for GK's but you can use it for outfield players!

looks like its going to be Perch and Simpson in the centre, as TTID says i would play 4-5-1 with two midfielders protecting the defense!

Not funny, mental!
(Sm102)

I could see using two holding mids, but then again with Norwich and Swansea on tap maybe we should look to get at them and establish a lead early?

Thing is with playing two holding mids, Norwich would just bypass the mid and pump balls into Holt and Morrison. They are big strapping lads who are very good in the air. Not the best thing for possibly two small CB.

I say lets stick to our game and keep the pressure on them.

Risky way of playing against Norwich, I see the point in some way Biffins, trying to attack them and putting pressure on them, but think with two holding players we can try and stop them playing and get at them with the attack. Holt will defo cause us problems regardless as he is a half decent player

Against Swansea, we need to pack the midfield with the way they bang it around constantly
