Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Newcastle Utd v Manchester Utd

Newcastle United host Manchester United tomorrow evening in the final Premier League game before the FA Cup weekend. Both teams go into the game on the back of weekend defeats. Whilst Newcastle have won one, drawn one and lost four from their last six games, Fergie’s men have lost two, and won four of their last six games from all competitions.
Sir Alex Ferguson, who was 70 at the weekend, has 11 injured players ahead of the game, with Evans (calf), Young (ankle), Fletcher (bowel condition), Vidic (knee), Fabio (hamstring), Owen (thigh), Cleverley (ankle) and Bebe (knee) all absent. Wayne Rooney (officially suffering a knock but actually dropped for defying Fergie) and Rio Ferdinand (illness) are expected to return, but Chris Smalling (tonsillitis) is a doubt.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is without Peter Lovenkrands (calf), Danny Guthrie (groin), Steven Taylor (Achilles) and Sylvain Marveaux (groin) but Gabriel Obertan who picked up a toe injury against Liverpool, is expected to be fit.
Demba Ba and Cheik Tiote are both available, but may play their last game ahead of the African Cup of Nations. Ba will be looking to continue a great scoring record for the club, whilst Tiote plays after successfully completing the game at Anfield without being carded. Had he have been, he would have been suspended.

Right i said this at work today so will continue, just to be mr optomistic (maybe still a little hungover) but am going with 3 - 1 to the toon. Man utd to score first then us to be 1 - 1 at half time. 2 -1 to us early doors and then a late one to finish them off. Wow who said football isn't scripted

They will drop De Gea and play Rooney.

if De Gea is playing then we need Shameobi and Ba up front and bombard the box with high balls like blackburn did!
Should be an interesting match!
I cant decide whether to watch this one or not, everytime i go to a game or watch it on TV recently we lose so i may have become a jinx if so i'm going to sacrifice myself for the good of the club and start watching sunderland!

Fully agree that 2 big men up front is needed tonight and think with Raylor crossing ability, then I would play him right wing and get the ball up there to test the keeper everytime.
Not to sure on the result as Man U are bound to come out and try and make a statement, but results have been weird this season so you never know, so going to go for a 2-1 win

The whole of the first 25minutes has been very positive from both sides with both keepers making important saves.

A bit optomism goes a long way
Get in the toon made Man U look 2nd best all over the pitch even though they had 12 men playing we still showed them.
Howard Webb is a disgrace to blind referees everywhere.

Sure we will get a good write up from Wasim soon but everyone was amazing. Everyone has to be to make Man U look so bad. They were poor but we didnt give them a seconds break, and Andrew your right, Webb didnt dive us anything and that was a penalty.
Tunyc, Raylor had a very good game. Kept a hold of the ball well when we needed to.
Hat off to all the lads but big licks to Pardew. He stuck Ameobi up front to give BA the help he didnt get against Liverpool.
Speaking of BA, he was just f00king immense. Tortured their back line and always wants the ball. One of the most complete CF performances Ive seen in a long time.

Just watched the match after I finished work and what a performance ! Just hope pardew leaves obertan on the bench for a while and sticks with raylor it made such a difference . Obertan has pace but he just runs into people and loses the ball and when he eventually does get a cross in he never looks to see where anyone is he just punts it into the box and hopes for the best it's so frustrating
Well done all the lads tonight though everyone of them gave a good performance just hope this gives a good confidence boost to go on another run even without ba & tiote

Had to close tonight so had to watch on tape delay. What a game!! Overall, what a great effort top to bottom. Excellent team sheet,outstanding game plan, what can you say, outstanding result. It was very interesting to see the lads come out after half time. There was a genuine camaraderie evident as they came out of the dressing room. Even only being up by 1, watching them make their way out of the tunnel instilled a bit of confidence in how they were together. Danny redeemed himself with his goal line clearance, and his interaction with Krul made quite a statement. Stanton made an impressive impression and I wouldn't mind keeping this group together for a while, but adding Ben Arfa with Ba gone. What a great result after the Liverpool effort.

Amazing performance by all the players, pardew got the tactics and the team spot on, Ba obviously was man of the match with tiote or colo a very close second!
I would like to single out Santon's performance he had a fantastic game, defended really well and was a real threat on the attack, this also enabled Jonas to be more of an attacking force!
I thought Raylor did a great job and helped out Simpson, it would be good to see him start here over Obertan for a few games.
