Newcastle United host Queens Park Rangers tomorrow lunchtime in the first of the Sunday matches. They play on the back of wins against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup and Manchester United in their last League game, with three wins, two defeats and a draw from their last six games in all competitions.
Queens Park Rangers will play their first game under the management of Mark Hughes, who replaces Neil Warnock after he was sacked last weekend. The go into the game on the back of an FA Cup draw against Milton Keynes Dons, but four defeats and two draws from their last six in all competitions.
Hughes will start his bid to keep QPR in the Premier League without Captain Joey Barton who is suspended. They will also miss Adel Taarabt and Armand Traore who are both on International duty at the African Cup of Nations. Alejandro Faurlin (knee) is his only long term absentee, whilst Keeper Paddy Kenny (hip) will be hoping to play.
Alan Pardew is without Demba Ba and Cheik Tiote who are at the African Cup of Nations, with Hatem Ben Arfa hoping to be given a starring role.
Sammy Ameobi (knee) will be unavailable for several months after picking up an injury during the week, whilst Steven Taylor and Sylvain Marveaux are long term injury concerns and Peter Lovenkrands is still out.
Fact: Newcastle United have kept 7 clean sheets this season, 1 short of the 8 they kept last season.
Fact: Queens Park Rangers last won at St James Park in 1993.

Let's hope having a new manager doesn't give QPR a boost and aren't we lucky Joey Barton isn't playing today. I'm sure he'd be desperate to score against us.

Injury forced AP's hand and-quelle surprise-we look a better team with HBA, even without Cabaye. Also, those of us who have wanted to see Jonas in the middle are getting a bit of vindication. He's doing the job.
Great finish by Best, but I still don't know how he got so many touches in such a small space.

3 points needed (in that it was at home against a bottom 3 team) and got. Agreed Annie, if we're gonna stay at these heady heights we need another body at striker, at least until Ba gets back!

I can't understand how Shola gets so much pitch time. He at least appears to be one of the slowest, most listless, laziest men on the pitch. Yes, he can hold up the ball but his positional play is awful. He's never in the box when you need him, he's so often offside.
As for HBA-he simply needs to pass more. It's almost like he's contemptuous of his teammates. Dude, when you've got three defenders right in front of you, your options are to pass or give away possession and today he mainly chose the latter.

Shola was controlling the aerial balls phenomenally today, but Best isn't a winger so there was never anywhere to go with the ball after Shola laid it off. I am a bit surprised we didn't see Obertan on for Shola, with Best moving central.

Got quite a game on in Wales...Walcott scores on the break to equalize and then Danny Graham re-establishes the lead with a fine finish less than a minute later. Entertaining.

Sure we do. It's January. Now if our board won't take advantage of any of those options then they're responsible for the results.

we might aswell pack the midfield we've an abundance of midfielders at the club, we had 6 on the bench yesterday!
Before anyone says it Perch isn't a defender, Ferguson can play LB put he is more a midfielder and HBA and Ober can play up front but i dont think they'll ever class themselves as strikers!

Not to antagonize but I had and still have no idea why Best, who took the only chance he got beautifully, came off when Shola looked like he had nothing left in the tank.

neither of them had anything left, I may be wrong but i'm sure a commentator said recently that Best has never finished a full 90mins for us and rarely did it at his previous clubs!
