Wolves In For Best or Lovenkrands

Mick McCarthy is rumoured to be keen on taking Leon Best on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers this transfer window, after Newcastle United signed Papiss Demba Cisse to partner Demba Ba upfront.  Best, who has played 17 League games, started 15 and scored 4 goals this season, has seen his reputation on Tyneside increase after putting in good performances and linking up well with Ba since his arrival in the summer.

An interest has also been expressed in Peter Lovenkrands, who will be out of contract in the summer, however at this stage, with such limited cover at the club, it is unlikely that Best especially, will be shipped out.

Peter Lovenkrands scores his sides first goal of the game

Lovenkrands, however, is a more likely option, having not played for the club since 3rd December 2011 and ranking further down in the pecking order with each new signing, he is likely to be looking for a move to regular first team football.

Wolves are yet to make an official approach for either player.

With Lovenkrands 5th choice, it makes sense. AP hasn't shown the same appetite for playing him in midfield that CH did.

Probably because he's @#$%&. Ship him out.

They can take em both and chuck ameobi in free as a sweetener to clear out the dead wood their bleeding the wage bill that could be used on another sticker that might actually know what the position requires !

Right now anyone . As long as they are both there the temptation to play them together like that will remain everytime ba is injured/banned/international duty and it just doesn't work need to get rid of one or both More than anything to save pardew from himself
They were so bad yesterday I'd eve look into what the chances are of bringing kuqi back !

I'd still prefer us to keep Best. Ameobi and Lovenkrands can go if there are bids, but Best isn't on huge wages and can be decent on his day.

If I was confident of another striker coming in, or Vuckic/another youth making the step up sooner rather than later, then I would say lose Best as well. But as it stands, he's probably our better rotation option. I'd prefer him ahead of either Ameobi or Lovenkrands.

Tom, you are getting a little carried away mate. Yes we have went out to Brighton but it is always like that in a cup tie. We should always but lower teams out but they raise their game. From the highlights I saw (which I agree only shows a small part), Shola's hold play didnt seem too bad. Best's finishing looked poor though.

Lets look at the positives, we have two strikers who are coming back and HBA is staying fit. Lets hope for a defender in, then we can hope for a good finish to the end of the season.

Too many fans thinking a Europe spot should be a given. Christ, we didnt even finish in the top ten last season so this is undoubted progress. Ameobi still has 2 1/2 years left on his deal so I dont see him going anywhere. A clear out in the summer and hopefully a young stiker through the door.

Lovenkrands is obviously on the way out. If they want to kick the tires for the rest of the season before signing him they can go for it as long as they're paying the wages.

Best is a more tricky case not least because he'll be wondering where he's going to get appearances once the African lads return. But with more on his contract and six years younger, I'd want a fee. I wouldn't even discuss a loan with them.

we need to keep Best as backup, yes he's been poor the last 2 matches but it would have been totally different had he been playing with someone other than Ameobi

Oh I agree but I also think Ameobi:

a.) is unsaleable, especially with that contract-remember, he blew up his transfer to Stoke w/wage demands

and

b.) has photos of MA, DL & AP doing some seriously heinous/illegal s.hit. Maybe selling crack to blind kids while sodomizing an old lady with a broomstick. Or something.

Not getting carried away with the Brighton result the truth is we have looked limp since the acn lads left we were lucky to hold on for win against qpr and haven't really looked like scoring in any game I watched the game yesterday and best and ameobi were both shockingly bad ameobi rarely got into any threatening positions and when he did lay the ball off best was nowhere to be found these two are just not on the same wavelength and shouldn't be played together one or the other with someone like ba is ok but just not together and like I said as long as both are here that's what will happen
One or both need to go and free up space to bring another option in ready for next time injury or international duty leaves us without ba

As Liverpool are in the mood for cheeky swap bids why don't we try swapping best or ameobi for Carroll ? Wouldn't be unhappy with Carroll as backup to ba and cisse !

I'd take that, Tom. Shola for AC: sold (@ his old wages, of course)!

I'm not worried. Against Fulham and Brighton we did everything but score-Ba & Cisse will definitely help with that. Other results have been fine.

The lack of defense against Fulham was far more worrying. Typically this season, when we scored twice, it was 3 points (a couple draws, but not many). Sure Santon's two penalty decisions were harsh, but there were plenty of other lapses. Other than the Norwich game, we hadn't looked so disorganized defensively all year.

Against Brighton, Simpson gifted Buckley 60 yards of free space on goal.

Simpson pulled out of a late challenge which would of seen him sent off when Buckley got past him, chances are had Saylor or Colo been on the pitch they would have seen the danger and intercepted Buckley beofre he had got into such a dangerous position!

If the ball doesn't take that deflection off Williamson we all agree that Simpson made the right choice.

At Fulham we didn't adjust our shape to what their setup demanded after Johnson came on. It feels like a one-off rather than the result of a deeper problem. Personnel was good enough, tactics weren't. One penalty was on Santon that wasn't (though he should have already been off due to Colo & Williamson leaving him alone to deal w/Johnson) and the other was on Krul (lucky not to be sent off). Reality is we lost because players and coaches put their feet up after dominating a half but only scoring once.

To me, there are only a couple problems with this squad:

-lack of depth, especially in defense
-AP's inability to get the most out of it going forward
