Best To Stay In Toon

Newcastle United striker Leon Best is set to stay at the club after rejecting the idea of a loan deal to Celtic. The club didn't come back with a cash offer for the 25 year old after he was granted permission to discuss terms and he but chose to stay on Tyneside. The arrival of Senegal International Papiss Cisse is likely to reduce his pitch time, but Best will now fight for his place in the starting eleven at the club and is expected to start tomorrow evening.

It will be welcome news to manager Alan Pardew who without Best would be limited in strike options, should anything happen to either Demba Ba or Papiss Cisse.

The transfer window is now closed and Newcastle have come out the other side of it relatively unscathed. With no major departures disclosed, Pardew can breathe a sigh of relief as he keeps hold of all his key players.

Well, it could be worse. We could be spurs. Saha & Ryan Nelsen? What is this, 2002?

Wait a minute, what? Bid for Loven? From whom?

As I understand it, Best was going to be allowed to leave if he wanted to go. I can understand that. If our top forwards stay healthy and have any sort of form he'll have trouble getting appearances. That will drive his price down.

And again: we painted ourselves into a corner w/Shola's contract. Unless we cancel it (doubt that, see: Smith, Alan) he will finish his career here.

Perch I can understand as with no defender coming in he's needed.

Are we trying to torment Loven? Also, I agree with someone on another blog who asked why didn't we loan Vuckic if he can't even make the bench for this match?
