Newcastle United host Norwich City tomorrow afternoon in a 4pm kick off. Norwich travel on the back of two wins, one draw and three defeats from their last six games. Newcastle go into the game on the back of two wins, two draws and two defeats from their last six in all competitions, after an unfortunate extra time defeat against Arsenal on Monday night.
Newcastle are without long term absentees, Steven Taylor (Achilles), Sylvain Marveaux (groin), Peter Lovenkrands (thigh), Leon Best (knee) and Sammy Ameobi (knee).
Pardew is also sweating on the fitness of Cheik Tiote (thigh) and Danny Simpson (adductor muscle), who will both be given a late fitness test ahead of the game after picking up their injuries against Arsenal. Ryan Taylor (calf) is not expected to be fit until next weekend, but Nile Ranger, though unlikely to be selected, is expected to have recovered from his ankle injury.
The club currently have the 2nd highest injury list in the Premier League, behind only Manchester United, with the list increasing on an almost weekly basis.
Norwich are without Marc Tierney (groin), Declan Rudd (ankle), Danny Ayala (hamstring) and James Vaughan (hamstring). Jonny Howson has regained his fitness after an illness and is expected to feature.
Paul Lamberts side have been fairly impressive recently on the road; with three wins in their last five away games, they will come to St James’ Park (aka Sports Direct Arena) with their heads held high hoping for 3 points. However, they last won away at Newcastle in 1988.
Alan Pardew is expected to recall Papiss Cisse to the starting eleven after leaving him on the bench against Arsenal, whilst Hatem Ben Arfa, who scored the opening goal on Monday night will have hoped he has proved his point for a starting place.
Should Tiote fail to be fit, Danny Guthrie, who has put in a good performance this season will step up once again, with Haris Vuckic, recently recalled from Cardiff starting on the bench.
Fact: Newcastle go into the game with 52 yellow and 2 red cards under their belt. Norwich have 40 yellow and 2 reds cards to their name this season.
Fact: This game is Alan Pardew’s 500th League game as a manager. He has won 211, drawn 132 and lost 156 during his career at Southampton, Reading, West Ham, Charlton and Newcastle.
