Guthrie Disappointed At Lack Of Chances

Newcastle United midfielder Danny Guthrie has expressed his disappointment at being dropped in favour of Cheik Tiote and Yohan Cabaye, despite putting in good performances in their absence. The midfielder who is out of contract in the summer has been offered a new deal but is yet to sign it.
He said of the clubs win against Norwich yesterday, in which he played due to Tiote's injury;
"We’re delighted to get the win – we hadn’t won for a few games. It was a bit edgy at times, but it’s another three points on the board.
It was a very important three points for us and with players missing and people playing out of position it was a massive effort.
We were unfortunate to only be 1-0 up at half-time and a second goal would have made it more comfortable. As the second half went on, a bit of edginess crept in, but we saw it through.
I was very upset and disappointed to be left out the team a couple of weeks ago. I had to pick myself up. It was a tough game to come into.”
Talking about the opportunity to get into Europe he added;
"It would be a proud moment - not just for me. It would be for all the staff because it was not expected of us."

Be good if we can get him to sign, as I do think the lad has done well when we have had to call on him, problem for the lad is he won't be one of the first names on the team especially as we have Cabeye and Tiote.
Rumours are Villa are after him and he is interested, and at the moment is available to talk and sign a pre-contract now if he wishes, so maybe as he hasn't there is some hope that he will stay on with us

Would be madness to let him go. AP hasn't seen fit to play Vuckic or Abeid hardly at all and Gosling just doesn't look good enough. Perch can do a job but he can't cover both.
I can see him wanting more first team football though. He's probably good enough to start somewhere. I don't read too much into him being upset about not getting into the derby though. That's to be expected.

The only position with a fully fit team that he stands a chance with is Right Wing.
As I said I would love to keep as he offers us a lot and a replacement will cost us money, but I do understand that he wants to play first team football

True about the fully fit team, TTID. But hey, good teams need a bench and nobody's going to be fit for an entire season.

I am in total agreement, the lad offers us quite a bit, I am just hoping that he takes the deal and tries to stay and fight for a starting position

I have to admit, Im not bothered either way really. He played very well for that 5-6 game spell. But long term, Im still undecided. He seems like a nice lad and all that but are we not looking for better possibly.
If he goes then hopefully we would try and bring in somebody better if you know what I mean. In four years he did well in promotion season and the short spell mentioned.
If he stays, sound. If he goes (which I think he should for his career) then well done and good luck.

That strikes me as somewhat apathetic, Biffins.
My wife had a job at a shop with an owner who would show up occasionally and play boss. She liked firing people. According to my wife these employees usually deserved termination. When the owner did this the real management was completely unprepared: hadn't interviewed anyone, put ads in classifieds or even put up a "help wanted" sign. It put pressure on the remaining employees who didn't appreciate it.
Guthrie is a solid PL-experienced player, third choice at his position here. I only really stress re-signing him in the case that we sell Tiote.

Like I say, not bothered either way. If's and but's and who's to say that we havnt already scouted somebody better. I think some people want him to re-sign as we will lose him for nothing. A better reason for him to re-sign is that he is going to push us on to the next level. If you know what I mean.

its a funny position with Guthrie, he's a very talented experienced and dependable player, is he going to win us the PL, probably not but do we want a squad full of star players who aren't going to be happy unless they play every game going and upset the harmony in the club?
We could let Guthrie leave and bring in a foreign lad who doesn't settle, who do we play when tiote or cabaye are unavailable, one of the inexperienced young lads!
To replace Guthrie with a similar or better player with as much experience who doesn't need time to bed in would cost 5m+ or even more!
I personally would keep him, we are brimming with CM's so i cant see us bringing many more experienced ones in, he wont cost us anything and there's been times this season when cabaye and tiote could probably have done with a rest and Guthrie is the perfect replacement!

I think he can sustain that push forward when Tiote or Cabaye are injured, away on international duty or off form. I don't think Gosling can do that. I have a feeling that this decision depends on Abeid's development. I'd like to see him in the PL.

If we're going to move to a 4-3-3 as a baseline formation to accommodate HBA, Cisse, and Ba together, then Guthrie will be an integral part of our squad. In the 4-3-3, Jonas will have to play more central, that means Guthrie can come in for any of three positions as opposed to just 2. Furthermore, if Liverpool beat Everton in the FA-cup semis, then we're pretty much guaranteed a Europa spot and will need every live body we can have.
With the form of Perch in recent weeks, throw in Raylor/Santon and hopefully Marveaux that would give us 4 versatile players outside of our starting 11.
Not really related, but I think Obertan in a 4-3-3 could be incredibly dangerous.

Obertan could be very good in 4-3-3 but his final ball would still need work. If he could get that right he'd be a dangerous player, period.
