NUFC Sign Curtis Good on 6 Year Deal

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has made his third signing of the summer after securing a 6 year deal for 19 year old Curtis Good from Melbourne Heart. The Australian defender made 25 appearances for Melbourne last season, scored one goal and picked up three yellow cards.

It is understood that Newcastle paid a fee of approximately £400,000 after a successful trial at the club before the transfer window opened.

Earlier this month his agent Zeljko Susa had been wary of the move and was quoted saying;

“I know Newcastle like him and I’m hopeful but I’m not 100% at the moment on the deal. Of course, it is a huge step up for Curtis because the EPL  is another level from the APL but he is a very talented kid. He certainly enjoyed himself at Newcastle. I think we just want to wait and see what happens with Newcastle before we look at anything else with Curtis.”

However, his former coach John Aloisi had a more positive approach when interview last week, he said;

"It's a fantastic opportunity for Curtis. Newcastle United is one of the biggest clubs in the United Kingdom, and we are absolutely delighted he has the opportunity to test his wares on such a stage.

While Curtis will certainly be missed, his proposed transfer is a great affirmation of our youth policy, and a demonstration of the Club's ability to assist in developing players to such an extent that they’re able to move to one of Europe’s leading competitions.

We wish Curtis well and hope he will one day return to don the red and white stripes of our Club."

The deal has now been confirmed on the Official Premier League website.

Good move, but time to loan the lad out for a season, to give him some match practice

I know it's irrelevant, but I get so confused with messages and articles like "Good signing for Newcastle" and "Good transfer" - makes me think I missed a whole slew of transfers.

Anyway, as Harry Redknapp would put it:
"He's a good player"
Hopefully he hits the ground running and starts to pressure the first team within the next two years...'course he'll need time to settle in.
